List of Thelma Mcmillen Recovery Center's Reviews
I wanted to update my review of the Thelma McMillen Recovery Center. During the pandemic their services have been delivered virtually without interruption and with the same quality they have always rendered. I am aware that they take special care to assist clients especially those who might be technologically challenged to navigate virtual treatment. Finally I want to share a situation that Im personally aware where Dr. Watson Program Director worked tirelessly to assist a client and family locate the appropriate level of care even though the client wasnt a good fit for their center. This is the type of professional integrity and compassion for others that makes this center a beacon in the recovery community.I have been familiar with the work of the Thelma McMillen Recovery Center for almost 10 years. I’m impressed with their use of evidence based programs such traumainformed mindfulness and Medicated Assisted Treatments and familyinvolvement for teen and adult programs respectively. Additionally their community efforts conducting workshops and hosting world class presentations are exemplary. I’ve worked collaboratively with the Center leadership in crafting timely discussions impacting teens and adults. Their professional integrity is beyond reproach. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering help with Substance Use Disorders.

We find them to be helpful to our daughter.. Very caring and professional counselors. l highly recommend them.Jody is a great counselor
I learned a few skills that would help keep me sober but over all it was a tremendous loss of money for what I received. Counselors are OK but not really outstanding In one personal experience the counselor handled a situation totally wrong and another group member threatened to kill me. Later the member tried to apologize by giving me a card. Total BS most of the time and at the end of it all you are totally on your own. If you want to throw your money away then definitely enroll.
This is a great outpatient center. I had to quit and go into an inpatient because personally outpatient was not intense enough for me but my 9 months at Thelma were great. Most of the counselors truly care about their patients especially Jean James and Karen. The lectures are very interesting as well especially Chris. Ive met a lot of sober friends through this program who have become a strong support system for me. I also like how this program makes you go to AA meetings and find a sponsor as well which has been very helpful to my recovery.
Recovery work can be challenging due to the actual substance use disorder itself and complicating factors such as trauma family dynamics and cooccurring disorders. The McMillen Center under the direction of Drs. Gelbart and Watson has a conscientious staff with many years doing recovery work and dealing with underlying emotional issues of clients. They sometimes have to make difficult decisions on treatment direction with their clients. However they will always strive to make the best decisions for clients while being open to feedback regarding alternatives. If clients have an issue regarding the treatment theyre receiving the Center encourages and is very open to discuss it. They are not simply an abstinence based problem. They employ techniques such as trauma informed counseling Medication Assisted Treatment mindfulness family and individual counseling. If clients have a therapist prior to entering treatment they coordinate treatment with clients outside therapists to insure best outcomes. Additionally they encourage clients to establish sober networks in the community while still in treatment so they have continuing support upon graduation. Ive worked in the recovery field for many years. In this regard I know the elements of a quality program. I recommend this organization to anyone seeking addiction help for themselves or a family member.
Ive worked with Dr Watson and his IOP staff for a long time in working with adolescents and families. Ive referred teens and families to their center. My experience has been excellent. I appreciate their care and compassion in working with teens struggling with substance abuse. Their parent support group is also a great resource and recommend them highly.
Ive had the pleasure of working closely with Dr. Watson and his teen staff for many years. Im aware of how difficult it is to work with substance using teens who may also have emotional and family issues. The Thelma team is skilled at addressing the teen and family dynamics during treatment. They really care about the welfare of the families. They are patient yet firm with teens while providing the parents with much needs support and boundary setting. I would recommend any parent whose teen is struggling with substance use to give them a call
The Thelma McMillen Recovery is a beacon of integrity and stability in the community. Those of us in the treatment industry value the ethics of the leadership and the supporting therapists.
The staff members are a wonderful group of dedicated professionals. Highly recommended

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
