Worst doctor experience ever! I have been traumatized by my encounters with this doctor and he made me feel crazy, even though I have an actual medical problem. His condescending attitude and lack of communicating results and instead, telling patients they should seek psychiatric help, caused actual PTSD. He made me cower and suffer with my symptoms out of fear of being treated like I'm making things ...

I have rarely encountered a more arrogant and disorganized medical practice. I was compelled to see Dr. Alpern through a limited insurance approval, and after four months of waiting for a response, I was met with a condescending young doctor, who has been dismissive of every question that I have had from the beginning to end of treatment. For example: when asked about any nutritional change components that might be helpful with an IBD-related diagnosis, he literally said that 'there is nothing that dietary change can do to help.' Not only is this obviously untrue, he even managed to order my (potentially unnecessary) prescriptions in an incorrect order costing me an extra $240 unnecessarily since insurance couldn't cover it as ordered. I wouldn't recommend this practice for any reason. I've canceled further appointments and will seek services elsewhere, even if I have to drive 60 miles to LA.

I met Dr. Alpern in December of 2018 when I self referred to VCH for endoscopic diagnosis of Primary Gastric Adenocarcinoma. Dr. Alpern was the physician who performed the endoscopy, and when he saw an antral ulcer, he very thoroughly biopsied the entire area by taking ten separate biopsies. Two weeks later he rang me with the pathology results which confirmed the diagnosis. He was very compassionate and asked me to stay in touch as treatment progressed. It is one year on now and I am returning to see him this coming week for his opinion and possible treatment of post surgical gastrectomy complications. I think he is a wonderful, thorough physician and would and have recommended him without hesitation
