Tessie Okamura's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Okamura and her office were always good to us when my son was little and had recurring ear infections. Getting an appointment was easy and he was well taken care of. The office is still most helpful! I called because the family practice we switched to as my son got older didn't keep the dates on his immunization card, and he needs that for grad school. I called Dr. Okamura's office yesterday and was cheerfully helped by  Alondra. Today a young man in the office faxed the document to my son.  They were so nice and right on it. My (now former) family practice never even answered the phone yesterday, nor returned my message. . If you have a child and  are looking for a pediatrician, I highly recommend this office for quality medical professionals and a rocking staff.

Such an amazing Dr. always takes the time to explain thoroughly what’s going on and the steps required for treatment.

Since there was a somewhat negative review posted, I wanted to post our own experience w/ Dr. Tessie. She saw our kids fr. birth to ages 10 & 12. We have never been disappointed w a visit. She always took the time to ask how the kids were, how school was, and what was new for the family. She was conservative when she should have been and acted quickly when she needed to (RSV for our infant daughter, unlikely broken bones, asthma). Staff is amazing too. We just moved and will miss them!

She doesn't answer questions in a complete way, and instead seems intent on backing away toward the door as quickly as she can. This includes questions about how to administer a medication she prescribes, which seems like something you would want parents to be very clear on. All of this said, I have been very happy with her medical assistants and nurses.

We brought my son in for his annual checkup the summer before he started kindergarten. Somehow they missed that he needed a second MMR vaccination before he could enter kindergarten.The next year, his vaccinations were up to date, but you need a form filled out stating so, to enter 1st grade. So back to the doctor where they charged us $20 for the form and made us come back the next day to pick it up. His dentist did it on the spot for free.

I came to Dr. Tessie Okamura for my daughter's check up. We were first time patients. We were a little late because of the registration I had to do before I entered the office. Dr. Tessie declined to see my daughter (who had an appointment) and wanted us to reschedule. This is a big deal for me because it shows that she does not care about her patients. What kind of doctor declines to see her ten year old patient when she is a few minutes late? It is so ironic  that patients can wait a long time after their scheduled appointment to see a doctor, but doctors can decline to see patients who are minutes late. I am very dissatisfied with this visit. I have already transferred my daughter's doctor and will not go back to Dr. Tessie Okamura again. I refuse to see a doctor who doesn't care about their patients.

We could not speak more highly of Dr. Tessie and her staff.  She has been our pediatrician for all three of our kids - one who is now in college and for our 8 and 10 yr old since they were born.  For now the other reviews I feel compelled to share our experience as it has been nothing but stellar, in fact, I can honestly say we've never had a negative experience or outcome in the 10+ years she has been our physician.  There have been multiple medical issues to address along the way which she handled with care and conservatism that prevented more serious issues - hospitalizing our daughter at 3 mos for RSV and watching over her very carefully each day, monitoring and treating serious childhood asthma for son, sending for an X-ray on an undetected broken arm that had no obvious symptoms, referring to an ent after a poor hearing test which resulted in adenoid removal and tubes, management of severe migraines in our oldest which required medication and literally changed her life, and of course the usual well checks.  Our kids love her and the staff and we love her too.  Christine, one of the nurses has been particularly wonderful - from playfully helping us pull the kids out from under chairs for shots when they were young, to watching them grow over the years.  I truly can't say enough about the peace of mind and confidence we have had over the years with this team.  My husband and I are both very busy professionals and always feel comfortable knowing they will go above and beyond and do what they can to keep our family in good health.  I should also say that the other doctors in the practice have always been good when Dr Tessie is out and we needed to be seen.

Dr. Okamura is awesome!  We have been going to Dr. O for five years now, for both my daughters since they were born.  She has a great way with kids.  She explains things thoroughly, doesn't rush you out, and you never feel like you are wasting her time.  With my first daughter, she understood that first time parents can be a little overly cautious, and she always understood.  Both girls love her, we think she is great, it's a win-win!
