Gary D. Ott's Online Review Report Card

I believe Dr. Ott is a knowledgeable, great physician, however I do not agree with the way he runs his practice. I went in for a routine PAP smear - preventative care, which is 100% covered by insurance. During my exam we talked about my mom's cancer diagnosis, and the treatment she was undergoing. This was the only thing we discussed during the exam. Then he asked me to come down to his office after the exam where he offered two "brand new, state of the art" blood tests to detect free floating cancer in the body. I declined them (I'm in my late thirties and have no symptoms of underlying disease), and he looked shocked. I left the office and went home. About a week later, I started getting calls from his staff person insistent that the doctor needed to speak to me about my PAP results. This obviously frightened me as I've never had a doctor call me about these results in the past. She put me on hold and when Dr. Ott came on the phone it was to tell me that everything looked good. I thought it was odd but a nice touch that he was calling to tell me this personally, as he had never done so in the past and chalked it up to an added touch he was now providing. A few weeks later I started getting bills in the mail. Turns out, Dr. Ott sent my sample to TWO different labs for STD testing, in addition to my annual PAP smear. This was NEVER EVEN MENTIONED during my appointment! Had it been offered I would have declined as I've been married for quite some time. He also charged my insurance company for a second office visit - his phone call to me to simply let me know everything looked great. That was a "second office visit". The total for these bills was close to $400! I filed an appeal with my insurance company. When they called the office to investigate my claim, they spoke to Veronica, and she flat out LIED! She told my insurance company that "a diagnosis was made during the appointment that merited addition testing. The patient was informed and consented." Wow! Unbelievable! So now I'm fighting these bills, which it looks like I'm just going to be stuck paying. Sadly, despite Dr. Ott being a great physician, I will never go back to this office!

I wouldn't recommend this practitioner to my worst enemy. Save yourself the headache...

Dr. Ott is the best. My BFF found him by looking through all of the listings of doctors who do pellets within driving range of us. Based on many different factors, she picked him and took me along for the ride, and I am super grateful. He's well worth the hour long drive it takes us to get to him. I don't normally leave reviews, but after seeing someone complaining about him, I had to say something. Best doctor ever. Grant it, he has to work within the bounds of the American medical system... but he is a gift to all of us within this system, and doesn't deserve to be put down as one of the best at doing great service even with all of the constraints and difficulties.

Dr Ott is an all around A+. He always makes me feel more secure! I'd recommend him to any woman as not only is he smart... he is patient and kind.

If not, do not go here. My first warning flag was when Dr Ott sat us down and said they will schedule our birth and use a balloon to induce labor at 38-39 weeks, because that's what's best-- for who, you? This is not how birthing works. The next issue is he made me take not one but 2 tests from Natera- totally unnecessary- did not ask me if I wanted it just here you need to take these. Be aware this is not the testing that could be offered which is free from the state. I did not know that. Imagine my surprise when I saw that I would need to pay $2,500 for this test. My new OBGYN informed me that no, I did not need that test. At the very least Dr Ott could have explained that to me and put the choice into MY hands. It's my choice - not here I now see. I am LIVID He tried having my husband take the same test. Thankfully I listened to my gut at that point and realized it was not necessary- I could be looking at $5k in unnecessary bills right now. PUKE. I AM NOT A NUMBER SHAME ON YOU.

Dr. Ott may be a pro at delivering babies, however, in terms of male testosterone therapy replacement, that's another story. I continue to suffer from horrific edema in both feet (NEVER had this issue prior to this replacement therapy). And as a guy with cardio disease, I was told by Dr. Ott additional testosterone was "good for the heart." Not true ... it's quite the opposite (one can google "side effects of hormone / testosterone replacement therapy in males). As a matter of fact, I received opinions from two well known cardiologists after the fact that this procedure produced my ongoing edema. I shared the edema problem I was experiencing with Dr. Ott, and his suggestion was to simply "stick my feet in my pool." Again, VERY troubling to me. This was also a very expensive lesson as this type of therapy is not covered by insurance. Onward and upward.David BLos Angeles

Dr. Ott's staff are so friendly, happy and welcoming. The medical assistants there truly made my experience. Dr. Ott, on the other hand, was an interesting interaction. I went there for help with my birth control needs. He just stared at his computer the whole time and didn't say much. He made me feel stupid.. like my needs were ridiculous and he just wanted me out of his office to get to his next patient. If you're going there for childbirth, you're in good hands. Anything else? Nope. I walked out in tears. Good luck!

Get your pellets done by a professional! Compassionate, caring physicians exist- just not here- keep it moving ladies! Onward and upward
