If you're looking for a gentle and caring OBGYN Dr. Schaefer is the one. She's part of the Stanford/Valleycare hospital system so her work schedule is quite hectic. Imagine working 24 hours at a time doing surgeries in the morning and seeing patients in between and standing by for deliveries. Wow, I'm so amazed by her work ethics. She's still so nice and gentle during all of my monthly maternity checkups. Keep in mind she sees lots of patients in a day so she doesn't talk a lot but it's up to you to ask the questions. I was nervous seeing an OBGYN because they'll have to examine you "there" but Dr. Schaefer is a petite and soft spoken lady who made me feel very comfortable. She's the nicest doctor in the whole office. I like how the office is right at the hospital and their patient portal is easy to use.
Dr. Schaefer delivered both my children, supported me during my miscarriage with a D and C and was nothing but professional, honest and straight forward. If you are looking for a doctor who is skilled at her craft, doesn't beat around the bush and keeps " reality real"; she is your doctor. When my daughter was born, unknown to us, she had her umbilical cord wrapped her neck several times. Dr. Schaefer was cool, calm and right to business without any hitches and cause for concern to those in the room! She moved fast without causing distraction! She was outstanding on the episiotomy side as well with both children ( super important!). Appreciate her services over the years with my annual exams and general questions! Much love to Dr. S and her entire staff! Always responsive, professional, fun and in times of need, calming!
If you want a nice and compassionate doctor she is NOT the one. She has no personality and no facial reactions for anything. She came in to do her job and left no small talk and could care less about knowing who I was or my history.

This was my first time going to her and my last. I needed her to following up on some result and I never heard from her.

Whoever is in charge of these doctors needs to read these reviews about how much of a horrible doctor she is and make the right adjustments. I am a very loyal valleycare patient and can not believe valleycare would employ someone like her.
I m pregnant I had UTI and I taking treatment from her since a month and today I called to my doctor Schaefer office to talk about my problem and the nurse her name is Amanda she spoke to me very rudely and said go to ur primary care and our Doctor will not treat it and no other doctors available to check and disconnected my call so rudely and I really want to compliment about this to the management
I'm pretty shocked by some of the reviews as I have never had anything but good stuff to say about Dr Schaefer. I'm now on my second pregnancy with her and I/we have nothing but good things to say. Sure she's not overly friendly or loving (not sure that's even the word I'd use) but why would I need her to be?! She's a Dr! I'm here to check on my babies health as well as my own and that's it. I'm not looking for another bestie!!!!
When it comes to the staff again I have had nothing but positive interaction with them. In fact today I had a schedule mix up, called and let them know and they made it work so I could still be seen later today.

I would recommend Dr Schaefer as well as Dr Stone to anyone looking for a new Dr. I would also recommend giving a place and or Dr a chance and forming your own opinion. Sure reading Yelp is helpful most times but I've learned in most situations (other than restaurants) the really bad reviews stem from something that in most situations are fabricated by the writer, two the person has all bad reviews that they have written (clearly there's no making them happy lol), and three they have gone to the place for years as claimed....had something happen they didn't like and loose their shit!!!! If she was so horrible....you wouldn't have waisted YEARS with her....end of story.
We been thr this doctor. She doesn't listen with patience and responds. Looks like hurry to cover some where else. No proper consultation, no guidance. Very disappointing.
If yelp had the option for no stars I would give her that! If you want a careless cocky rude doctor who always interrupts you while you asking her a question or doesn't take the time to understand you or your needs or rushes you or makes you feel at unease or stress then by all means this is the doctor for you! If not then please avoid Dr schaefer at all cost! Don't fall into the photos of her with babies and patients on the wall that's what got us and she was probably just nice and fake at the first few appointments but after she knows she's got you she will stop caring! I regret choosing her as my obgyn it was a very stressful pregnancy with her and her staff who was useless and careless if you happen to call this office and Linda answers the phone please hung up or ask for someone else because she's not capable of giving advice about pregnancy symptoms it's just a guessing game for her she won't check with the doctor but just give her I think I believe try this try that! Anyways what really pushed me off the edge was when I was in delivery the doctor kept leaving during my delivery she telling the nurse to page her when I get my next contraction comes and that she's going to the next building.. If she was a great or even a caring doctor she would have stayed through out my whole delivery she was just so impatient and difficult made my experience horrible!! Ughh terrible doctor worse experience ever please save yourself the stress and find a obgyn outside of valleycare or see Dr stone or salata or oliveira
I love Dr. Schafer! She was on call the day of my daughter's delivery, since my OBGYN at the time was out of town. She was very kind, gentle, informative, and brought an ease over me during a very rough, long & painful labor. My sweet little munchkin is now 2 years old (soon to be 3), and she is as healthy as can be! Many thanks to Dr. Santana & Dr. Schafer for their guidance, patience, understanding, and most importantly for caring! I would recommend both 10x over!
My visit with Dr. Schaefer was great. She was highly professional and cared a lot about answering any and all of my questions.
I have been going to Dr. Schaeffer for years. When she was in business with just another doctor, when she then merged with Valley, and now with Stanford. The care I receive is in/out at best. When ever I call with a problem, I have to explain it to the receptionist (who never seems to explain the whole thing so the answer I get is almost never helpful) and I am the one that has to call back to get the answer to the question I left. No follow up from her at all. The last straw was when I showed up for my appointment I made 2 months ago, only to be told it had been cancelled. The receptionist said they left a message yet when they looked in the log book there was none. I could go on and on about all the problems I have experienced over the years and no one really seems to care. Too bad...because she was a really great doctor.
This Tuesday will be a month since I had surgery with Dr.Schaefer. I had an ovarian cyst removed as well as my left ovary. She is AMAZING!! Always on time, very polite , proffessional , and caring. She will do the best to her abilities to take care of you, and find the best solution to your problem, always keeping your health a priority. I have gotten all my questions answered , despite how small they might be including if I can wear heels lol. The surgery went super smooth and I'm healing amazingly. The incisions arent noticiable so I'm blessed I'll be able to wear a bathing suit!! Overall I would highly reccomend her , she sure knows her job and is great at it!! Can't wait to be pregnant and have her as my OBGYN :)
Just had an ovoectomy with Dr. Schaefer and it couldn't have gone any smoother! She is a great doctor and has great follow up.
I've been with Dr. Schaefer through three surgeries and through two different offices. She's a lovely person and a great surgeon. This month I had a hysterectomy. I also had ablation surgery for severe hemorrhaging, and urethral sling procedure in the past. All three were perfectly done. I am grateful for her patient listening, evaluation, and expert care. I travelled from SoCal for my last surgery. I would travel from anywhere to see her again. I know that you'll be in the best hands with her.

Her new office is at 5575 W, Las Positas Blvd., Suite #330, Pleasanton, CA 94588
I wish I had something good to say about this office...but I don't. Ok I will try: A year and a half ago I met Dr. Schaefer in the emergency room. I am thankful she was there and helped me at the time. However, the care I received afterward was rushed, dismissive, and if she would have taken the time to listen to me it is possible that wouldn't have needed to go to her office again yesterday under the same circumstances.

I once again didn't get the medical care I felt my situation required so I cancelled my imaging appointment and went elsewhere. Now what happened next almost made me forget my English! I got a call from a nurse not to see how I was this morning, but to lecture me. Even if it were a warranted lecture, which this was not, I am pretty sure "call patients and lecture them" is not part of a nurse's job duties.

So ladies, all I can say is go with your gut. Trust your gut. If you do not feel satisfied with your care then find another doctor like I did yesterday. There is better and more empathetic care out there.
If there was a zero star, I would have chosen that option.

I've been a patient of Dr. Schaefers for years, and have never been blown away by her. Typically feel rushed at appts and the front office is rude at best. Chalk it up to laziness for staying with her for so many years.

However, the last few days were the last straw. Tried having a prescription refilled, but it was rejected by Dr. Schaeffer three days ago. Have called multiple times to find out what the issue is since I've had this prescription before. Every time I called, the rude reception would say that they would leave a message for Dr. Schaefer and that was the best they could do. On one of those days, I called and called and either got a busy signal or the phone would just ring. When I mentioned that today to the receptionist, she nonchalantly said that they were having phone problems on Friday afternoon...wow an OBGYN who's patients can't get a hold of them for hours?! What if you were going into labor...unacceptable.

I finally called for the last time today and the receptionist said that the prescription had been filled earlier in the afternoon. After trying to get this figured out for the last few days and asking for a call back, totally unacceptable that they never called/texted/communicated. I will never go back to this office. I can't believe the level of unprofessionalism.

Stay away...you have been warned.
I found Dr. Schaefer because she was within my medical group and within a few miles of my homeso it seemed nice and convenient and great that all my prenatal needs would be so close! I went for my first appointment and was excited as normal and felt that the appointment was great. I scheduled my next checkup within the 4 weeks as suggested and that was the beginning of my downhill experience with the doctor. Not only do I expect to have some delayswe're all preganant women so I do expect some to have their baby during my appointment time though when I went on to reschedule my routine checkup for the fourth time in four weeks, I began to feel that this doctor really wasn't in my best interest or that of my baby. I do have to say that the first and second reschedule were due to csection scheduling but I would imagine that it would be top of mind for the doctor to make a valid effort to make it to the third reschedule after rescheduling the first two times. When I was told why the doctor was rescheduling my third rescheduled appointment I was told, she is taking the day off. Frankly, it must be great to have me take half of a day off of work to accomodate the office's schedule and then be cancelled on. I figured okay, i'll just go next week. That was today. I must say, when an office voicemail says "our office hours are 85" that the office actually have office hours 85. TURN ON THE PHONES! Well I got there for my early appointment I was met with, can you come back at lunch time? Excuse me? I have a real job that expects me to do real work. I understand that things happen but today it was that the doctor decided to come in later. Ok great, so then, when I decide to have my baby, is this the excuse I'm going to get? Take my advice ladies, when you decide on your OB who is going to be monitoring you during one of the most important events of your life and is going to deliver your baby, think about how your physician treats you. Are you really just another appointment or are you someone that matters to this doctor and her practice. I would highly suggest finding another physician as am I. Being rescheduled for a number of appointments throughout the 9 months is understandable but for the same appointment, there is just no excuse. Find a doctor who will treat you respectfully. Like with any job, if you don't show up, you get fired. That's what I did with this doctor. I'm not letting the health of me and my unborn child be cared for by someone who utterly showed that they did not care enough about me.
This Dr. Is what happens when you become a number in the healthcare system. No more Dr., pt. Relationships, get in get out get paid. The staff like most other Dr's office act as though they are entitled to have a job. Worst of all, because they deal with pt all day it gives them the right to have personality of wet mop. Good job Dr. S. After med school should have taken a customer service course, as it seems your not able to see past the in and out burger mentality.
I love Dr Schaefer! I've been going to her for about 4 years now and she delivered my son. She has always been friendly and informative and was great during my pregnancy. I've had to wait a couple times but only because she had emergencies at the hospital or was called in to delivery a baby.
I had a long labor, 22 hours, she checked in frequently and ended up performing my csection. I would highly recommend her.
Dr.Schaefer was my OBGYN throughout my pregnancy.
Although she wasnt there during the delivery, she was wonderful the whole 38 weeks. She understood my concerns and she was very gentle. She is the best OBGYN i could have asked for :)
I had 2 babies delivered with Dr. Schaefer and can't say enough about how wonderful she is! I recommend her to everyone, whether for pregnancy or general female health.
