Eight months ago, today, Dr. Jenifer Marks gave me back my life. I have so much to thank her for, and to thank Dr. Jae Lee for recommending Dr. Marks.Since 1999, I had been a patient of a doctor at South Denver Gastroenterology in Englewood, CO. I had G.E.R.D and a hiatal hernia. The hernia was quite large and always commented on when I had X-Rays for respiratory infections. I had trouble sleeping on my left side, I was short of breath, my asthma and respiratory infections were frequent, food was getting stuck when I swallowed, and in 2014 I began having severe stomach pain and vomiting right after eating a bite or two of food. The incidents of pain and vomiting were random and happened at different times of day and not always with the same type of food.I went to see my doctor of 19 years at South Denver Gastroenterology near the end of 2015, and he did an endoscope and dilated my esophagus, he ordered an ultra sound of the upper right quadrant, a CT scan, and a Lower GI X-Ray. He said he couldn’t find anything wrong. I asked about the hernia and could it be causing these issues. My doctor assured me that the hernia doesn’t cause any issues and NO, it was not to blame for what was going on. My doctor was done with me. I was very surprised that as a doctor, he wouldn’t be more curious to find out what was causing me pain and vomiting.Because the incidents were random, I went to National Jewish for allergy testing in 2016. I know of specific things I’m allergic to but thought I might have new food allergies. The results were negative. I asked for a recommendation of their Gastroenterologists and was referred to one of their doctors for a second opinion. I saw this “Specialist” for a 10-minute visit and his diagnosis was that I wasn’t 30 years old anymore and couldn’t eat an entire pizza. Wow, he didn’t listen to a thing I said, and he agreed with my other doctor that the hiatal hernia had nothing to do with it.Both doctors left me thinking this was all in my head and I continued to get sick, have severe pain, and vomiting. In January 2018 I was hospitalized for severe dehydration from the flu. The CT showed my entire stomach in the thorax. I never thought I would say “Thank God I got sick!” but I did because that led me to my primary care doctor, Dr. Lee (I was a new patient), to recommend Dr. Marks. Within a few minutes of my appointment she asked me if anyone had ever told me my hernia was causing me problems? I about cried and told her no, they in fact were crystal clear it wasn’t. This surprised her. It was my hernia. What’s more interesting too is that every health professional I met for my Pre-Op tests and scans all said “Yep, classic hiatal hernia.” Classic, that left me stunned.Dr. Marks performed surgery on March 7, 2018, to move the stomach back in place and put a Partial Fundoplication around the esophagus. I received the best care from Dr. Marks and her staff, from Pre-Op information and preparedness, to the surgery and my hospital stay, and during my recovery. The worst part of the surgery was getting the gas out, but after a long recovery of limited activity and no weight lifting and some food restrictions, I have my life back. I haven’t had a respiratory infection since my surgery, I haven’t had any pain eating or had the urge to vomit, and after taking Prevacid for 19 years, I have been off it since June without any feelings of G.E.R.D.I can’t thank Dr. Marks enough, neither can my family and friends, after what they saw me go through during the 4 years prior to the surgery. If you or anyone you know needs a Cardiothoracic specialist, call Dr. Marks office. You won’t regret it.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
