Emma Mccarty's Online Review Report Card

I've been going to Emma McCarty for the past 8 years. She's smart, direct and points me to my better habits. She's empathetic and kind but not at all coddling...which I appreciated. After all I'm a 70+ woman and do take responsibility for my well being. I feel like we are on the same team...ME!!

I made an appointment for the week of March 29th. When I made my appointment, I informed the woman handling the scheduling that I had recent blood work from Quest Diagnostics. After verifying my appointment's date and time, the scheduling person transferred me to the medical assistant to leave a message. The scheduling person told me that either she or the medical assistant would get back with me to work out how to access or transfer the recent lab work. I left a detailed message for the medical assistant, including my name, date-of-birth and phone number. By the end of the next day, nobody had called me back, so I called the office again. It went to voicemail, so I left a message. The following week, the day before my appointment, I called again. I left another message informing them that I'd fax the blood work to the fax number on Dr. McCarty's Boulder Medical Center page, just so that she could have access to review it before my appointment. I included my name, phone number, and the time and date of my appointment on the fax cover letter, and the blood work document had my date-of-birth. On the day of the appointment, I show up at the Boulder Medical Center about twenty minutes early. The check-in kiosk informs me I have no appointments scheduled. I'm baffled, but I go to Dr. McCarty's office on the 2nd floor to figure out what's going on. Dr. McCarty's front desk individual told me I had no appointment and wasn't aware of any calls from me. After viewing her computer for a bit, she told me that there *was* a record of my calling the office. She said the call note indicated I had been referred to another doctor. I most certainly was not referred anywhere else; I would have been fine with it as perhaps I wouldn't have wasted my time. The individual at the front desk of Dr. McCarty's office also did something odd. First, she said an appointment couldn't have been made for Dr. McCarty because she is not currently taking new patients. After some back and forth about the calls, and as I was about to leave, she asked me if I wanted to make an appointment with Dr. McCarty for next week. What? You *just* told me she wasn't taking any new patients! For people reading this, thinking this isn't an appropriate review for a doctor since this is the front office's problem, not the doctor's: Health care isn't a single point of contact. Critical information must be communicated among multiple individuals in a timely and accurate manner to care for patients properly. The neglect and negligence displayed by Dr. McCarty's office could have occurred to someone in more dire and urgent need. The people with whom Dr. McCarty chooses to surround herself are a reflection of her judgment. And right now, I'm afraid that reflection appears murky and distorted.

Dr McCarty is one of the very best doctors I've ever had. She is very skilled; diagnosed a medical condition for me very early on; during a routine exam. She is thorough and provides excellent follow up. She is open to new ideas and views and engages with the patient as a partner; listening to the patient's needs and viewpoints. I highly recommend her.

Two generations in my family go to Dr. Emma McCarty and we are so happy we found her. She is a fantastic doctor. Would give more than 5 stars if we could.

Would give her more starts if I could. Friendly, attentive, easy to talk to, non-judgmental, and probably saved my life by pushing me to follow up with a specialist on an issue.

I’m without words. If you need to find a primary care physician in boulder or near by......find someone else. Please don’t tell a 50 year old woman, you can’t have your medications any longer. The anxiety itself, put me into overload. Now I’m faced with reality which might be death. Thank you.

I have found Dr. McCarty to be very thorough in her care. She listens and has the ability to formulate answers and explanations that are easily understandable. Strongly recommend.

Listens to what you have to say, talks about issues impacting you as a person and I never feel rushed even though her calendar is packed. Spent a lot of time on my labs and scheduled follow ups to check in on my progress. Gave detailed instructions on new meds and what I should look out for. And on a couple of occasions where I had to get in immediately they were able to do that as well Best doctor I can remember ever having.

She has a sense of humor and is good about answering questions.

The only reason I can come up with that anyone would give Dr. McCarty less than 5 stars is because she is usually running behind, but that’s actually a good thing because it is due to her giving you 100% of her attention for however long it takes! So many docs have one foot out the door because their time is more important than their service. Dr. McCarty is one of the best. I always feel I’m in good hands.
