For ca. 2 years, I thought most highly about Dr. John Roberts: he had been cordial, attentive. Dr. Roberts "specializes in customized cataract surgery." Yet, precisely this specialization in my experience has been a shocking failure. On 2/3/2023, I came in, ready for cataract surgery. We talked about methods and lenses. Dr. Roberts scheduled pre-op appointment for 3/1/2023 with surgery on 3/15/2023, and he requested a pre-authorization by Anthem Insurance. Dr Roberts and his staff had a whole month before measurements, yet they never checked on the insurance approval. On 2/13/2023 pre-approval clerk of Roberts' Colorado Eye Institute canceled pre-approval request, for the Institute was not in the network. No one informed me in a whole month, and so on 3/1/2023 I went through very long measurements, needed to decide which lenses are my options and what methods (e.g., laser or no laser). Imagine, Dr. Roberts DID NOT PLAN TO MEET WITH ME AFTER MEASUREMENTS BEFORE THE SURGERY!!! I was left alone (with the measuring nurse Julie) to decide on the lens and methods of surgery!! At the end, Julie told me untruth (!) that Anthem denied pre-approval, and that I have to talk to Anthem or pay all ca. $5000 by myself (while my insurance covers 100% of everything except custom lens)! The truth is, Roberts' Colorado Eye Institute withdrew pre-approval request on 2/13/2023 and never informed me! I wrote about this all to Dr. Roberts, on 3/2/2023 he replied promising in email to look into the matter and get back to me. It is now a month later 4/1/2023, and Dr. ROBERTS NEVER GOT BACK TO ME! He left all the problems to clerks of Colorado Eye Institute. The buck did NOT stop with MY Dr. Roberts, he assumes NO responsibility, and offers me NO apology. This is why Dr. Roberts earns ZERO STARS. The worst was that Dr. Roberts NEVER PLANNED to meet with me after measurements and before the surgery. One wonders: Why making all the measurements if the doctor does NOT use them at all in decisions related to cataract surgery, such as choice of lens, choice of using laser, etc.??? As to my cataract surgery, I had to start all over, with measurements, surgeon consultation, and surgery. Anthem sent me to a magnificent surgeon, who routinely (!) meets with every patient after measurements and before surgery. My goal here is to warn my fellow patients, and wish them all to choose a great surgeon, who cares and meets after measurements and before surgery, and meets again right after surgery. Dr. Roberts and his staff are phenomenal! I had cataract surgery done and the surgery, and all the care, were top-knotch. I highly recommend.

Dr. Roberts is treating me for ARMD. He is very friendly and through. Answers all of my questions in a manner I can understand.
