I saw Dr. Kirshnan for a consult due to elevated liver enzymes. He did not read through my chart before seeing me. He told me that I was overweight and that was the cause to my elevated liver enzymes. I am 5’5 and 145 pounds and athletic build which is actually a normal BMI. I am also only 4 months postpartum. When I told the doctor this he just said oh well let’s try to lose 10-15 more pounds and we can retest labs in 2-3 months. That much weight loss isn’t even safe. I am 10 pounds over my pre pregnancy weight but I am still at normal weight for my height and age. In addition I carry my weight in my thighs, my stomach is flat. (Extra abdominal fat is a risk factor for fatty liver disease). After 2 kids my stomach is flat. I do not believe this is the cause for my elevated liver enzyme’s. I am a RN so I do understand metabolic processes. The doctor also didn’t look at my abdominal ultrasound I had prior to seeing him which showed a normal liver no fatty tissue. I expect a doctor to do his research before seeing a patient. He spent 10 minutes with me as a new patient- the standard is 30 minutes. I didn’t get to ask my questions and I do not believe he was able to provide and accurate diagnoses and solution.
