Matthew Holland's Online Review Report Card

I've just moved from the D.C. area to a small town near CVille. In D.C., I'd been under the care of a NSPC doctor for several years, and for those years, after he had me undergo MRIs, cortozone shots and physical therapy, he concluded that the best remedy was a regular regimen of painkillers. Over these many years, I kept in touch with this doctor so we could monitor my pain meds and ensure that I was having no adverse reactions. Upon moving near the CVille area and encountering Mr. Holland, he immediately -- with very little information about my past and almost no examination of me -- concluded that he would end the pain medication regime I was on, harping that medicine is "an art, not a science," that different providers offer different treatments, and that the continuation of my pain medication regime was "not good for society." So I took Mr. Holland at his word, and agreed to try a new medication for pain. The medication kept me up at all hours, such that I could barely sleep. I notified Mr. Holland's office about this, he met me on a Zoom call (which required another fee, mind you) and he suggested a patch of some sort. So I tried the patch. Not only did this patch do little to relieve pain, it also induced insomnia. So I notified Mr. Holland again. I suggested that since the previous pain meds that I'd been seemed to work well and that my prior doctors had found I tolerated them well, that perhaps we should revert to those. Again, Mr. Holland rather high-handedly repeated his credo that different doctors approach pain management differently, and that perhaps I'd be better off with a new doctor. He offered to forward the names of other pain management specialists in the area, though what this means is that I must now spend the time, energy and money visiting each of them in the hopes that none of them is quite as imperious and callous as Mr. Holland.

I waited an hour in the waiting room before I was even admitted to an examination room. Patients were vastly overbooked. Dr. Holland was impatient and did not review rheumatology,orthopedic or medical history reports, nor was he interested in my past surgical histories—so he was likely unaware that I suffer from 3 separate debilitative conditions—all of which cause severe pain. Also disturbing was that no blood pressure or pulse was taken. Neither did a nurse take my medical history, a practice which is common with most conscientious medical practices. that day he was a man in a hurry; all he needed was a cattle prod! Despite my explaining to him that my shoulder was tender; that I would be having surgery within a month’s time, and that I needed a second fusion; he was rough and hurt me during the examination. When I told him he had hurt me, he did not apologize. He offered no hope, possible solutions or remedies to my issues, and seemed disinterested throughout the the consult. He did suggest that I stop all pain medications, despite severe and chronic pain due to an autoimmune disease and a deteriorating joint and muscular disease. Dr. Holland appears incapable of handling complex medical issues, and he spent 5-7minutes with many patients the day I was there. Several patients told me they felt pressured to agree to unwanted procedures in order to get pain medications. He is very dominant, controlling and not interested in patient input and apparently has forgotten that Hippocratic oath he took some years ago, “first, do no harm.”

Dr Holland is a great provider, he is the only one that has helped my back,

Dr. Holland is my provider. He listens to my issues and concerns and offers suggestions to ameliorate the problem. I do not feel anything is "pushed" on me, and he allows me to make up my mind as to how to proceed. I appreciate this very much and I trust him.

Dr. Holland listened to my concerns, and after a year of getting the run around from other doctors, I am basically pain free! I also know what was causing my pain. I am extremely happy!!!

Dr. Holland has absolutely no compassion for the patient. Office dropped the ball with insurance and did not receive treatment thar I was scheduled for. Dr. Holland's only concern was payment for his service...very rude.

My doctor, Dr Holland, is probably the best physician I've had since moving to VA in '07. I definitely trust him 100%. Always willing to meet with me, answer my dumb questions and offer insights and immediate solutions for my symptoms. The staff has always been super awesome as well. I wish this office was my PCP.

Doing good since in Doctor Holland's care. He takes time to listen and find a solution to any problems that I have. Thank u Dr Holland.

I am very impressed with the attention I received! From the moment I stepped in, I felt like a priority, not an inconvenience (which is frankly how I have felt in other practices). I felt very confident in all aspects of the treatment: diagnosis and plan for treatment. I look forward to follow-up appointments.

Dr. Holland and his staff have always been courteous and helpful.
