I am grateful for this team! I have been a long-time patient, and I have very much appreciated Dr. Markey's dedication to identifying and correctly treating and following my neuro condition. Sometimes that has required thinking outside the box. I have worked with other neurosurgeons in the past, and I appreciate that Dr. Markey actually cares for his patients, unlike some neurosurgeons I have met. I have received exceptional care from Dr. Markey and team!
Incredibly smart and very easy to work with, Betty and Sabrina exceeded my expectations and where incredibly kind and thoughtfull and am so thankfull for the help I recieved.
I was approved for spinal fusion by Dr. Markey through my insurance and scheduled for Nov 17, 2022. One week prior to the surgery, Dr. Markey said my white blood cell count was too low to do the surgery and canceled it. 2 weeks later I received a letter stating that they dropped my insurance. My PC did blood work at that time and said my WBC count was normal. I tried contacting Dr. Markey's office over 1/2 dozen times, asking if he could refer me to someone else and forward his notes and the pre-auth and no one returned any of my calls. In my opinion, Dr. Markey canceled my surgery, because he knew I would need to be his patient for at least 6 months post op and that is why he didn't go through with the surgery. Meanwhile, I am in horrible pain, it has taken me months to find a new surgeon and since the original pre-auth had expired, I am AGAIN awaiting pre-auth from my insurance. I would have recovered by now and been 4 months post op had he not done this to me! Kristina Oldland
I’ve been a pt of dr markeys for years. In past years he was great, surgery went well. Now I need surgery again and we are having issues with my insurance. All contact has stopped they have taken over 2 months to get me a referral, they never answer the phone nor return calls. So disappointed I honestly thought he was a great doctor. But once they are required to do extra with insurance they cut contact.
He is an excellent surgeon and very concerned about his patients! I wouldn’t trust my neck or back to anyone else.
Dr. Markey is compassionate an takes time to listen. I have had four back surgeries due to a degenerate disease in my back. I have minimal pain and my ability to walk has improved greatly. He is a top surgeon which I highly recommend!
I agree with others that Dr. Markey and FNP Reed make up one of the best neurological and spine practices in the area as evidence by my own successful outcomes from both anterior and posterior fusions and a revision surgeries over the years. The reason for the three is the disorganization at the front desk. On Jan 5, 2023, I was prescribed PT to as continued care secondary to recent anterior and posterior C-Spine surgery. After I did not receive a follow-up status the following week, I contacted my insurance company and was told nothing had been submitted by my provider’s office. I contacted the front desk, explained that they needed to submit a request to my insurer electronically and was told it would happened. Nothing was submitted that week, even though the front desk reverified my information during the call (my insurance company verified nothing was submitted). I understand the office was transitioning from under Centura Health as of Jan11, 2023; however, I commented to the front desk person that it was not an excuse for continuity of care and there should have been a plan already in plan to ensure a smooth transition (this was something they planned not the patients who received letters several weeks ahead of this move). I followed up with this office the following week and was told it had been submitted; however, my insurance company told my that nothing had been submitted or was pending from the provider for me to start PT. I called the following week and emailed the office with the specifics to include what my insurance company said they needed to submit. I received a return call after I sent the email. On Jan 20, 2023, the office submitted a request for PT; however, it was not the right diagnosis/problem description. The provider’s office identified lower back pain as the primary diagnoses and the authorization was approved for that. That is not what I had surgery for in Nov 2022, that is not what I had 2 recent follow-up visits for and that is not the primary issue I am currently being seen for. There is still no request for PT due to my C-Spine surgery. I sent another email explaining this, what my insurance company told me, what they needed to do to correct the change since it has been less than 30 days. I even included the contact number, website with line item instructions on what they needed to submit electronically. I have also left several messages and the front desk has not returned my call this week. I am frustrated at this point and decided to drive over to the office today and there was a sign on the door for deliveries only. I left a message for the office manager while I sat in the lobby because there was no answers when I attempted to call the office number. They have the information that I sent them electronically, request to return my call to address/resolve my concerns. I am waiting to see if this will be corrected this week. Very simple request and fix because my insurance company said they will talk them through it within a few minutes. I am certain Dr. Markey or FNP Reed would flip out if this concern got them. In the past I have never had any problems with continuity of care coordination with this office. I don’t like providing negative reviews and will update depending on the response from the front desk. Again I have nothing but positive/fantastic reviews for Dr. Markey, FNP Reed and the surgery scheduler and want to hope that whatever is happening on the front end is corrected quickly.
My husband was paralyzed from the neck down in Dec 2006. Dr Markey performed upper spinal surgery on him in Jan 2007. He had a one percent chance of walking. After six months, he not only walked but could actually write again. After two years, he was able to play the piano. What a miracle! In Sept of 2022, we met with him regarding my husband's lower spine situation. He recommended surgery, so we scheduled it for Nov 2022. After six weeks, he no longer has pain in his legs and can walk much easier. What a miracle his two surgeries have been. We would recommend Dr Markey to anyone without hesitation.
Best neurosurgical office in Denver. Went to another practice in Denver and was put off as not needing surgery. These guys were on top of it and can’t wait to get rid of this pain. recommend to anyone.
Staff was very friendly and Dr. Markey took his time to explain my images .. he wasn’t in a rush like most drs . it was a great experience. I’ve seen lots of drs n I was very impressed. 5 stars all the way !

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
