Poor choice by administrators to employ an anesthesiologist without discussing the situation with loyal CRNA’s how have been providing care to the local community for years! A better solution to rectify the patients so called concerns would have been to educate them on the education, training and role of Nuse Anesthetists! Shameful!

After receiving an Award for excellence in patient care (while anesthesia care was provided by CRNAs only), the hospital administration decides to hire an expensive and unnecessary anesthesia provider (MDA) without discussing the decision the current CRNAs. Very poor decision by the administrators that will certainly not increase quality of care and certainly increase cost.

What were your “administrators” thinking? Why would you hire a Anesthesiologist with out consulting with the Anesthesia department? Would you buy a piece of medical equipment or drugs without thinking of cost or determining if it was necessary?This makes no financial sense. An Anesthesiologist costs at least 2x more than a CRNA. Anesthesiologists and CRNAs have the exact same scope of practice. Research demonstrates thatAnesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists have the same outcomes. One can only surmise that politics are more important than the people of Gunnison Valley. Jennifer Plum
