List of Joel Gates Md's Reviews
Dr. Gates was our physician for the 8 years we lived in Ridgway. He and his staff were fantastic. He was consistently caring, empathetic and very professional. He was knowledgeable, and yet personable. We miss him and his staff!
Dr Gates is a competent doctor but has become isolated by and incompetent clerical staff. On several occasions they have not acted in accordance with medicare laws on prescription refills and getting the information to the doctor in a timely manor. Then when wanting to speak with the doctor or medical assistant they have refused to connect me.
Willing to explain whats going on
I have utilized Dr. Gates as my physician when I am in Colorado for a number of years. He listens, takes his time, and has proven to be very competent. He is obviously well read and stays current with the latest research and medical practices. The office staff and nurses are professional and caring. In short, I have been very pleased with the care I have received at Mountain Medical.
worst Dr I have the misfortune of ever seeing. Would not let my dog be seen by him.
Joel Gates is one of the old fashioned MD's who thinks he's standing in for God Himself. Very controlling, rude, condescending, heartless, and mired in those old archaic ways of "practicing medicine" instead of promoting and teaching wellness. He knows nothing about and actually mocks the principals behind integrative/functional medical care (a true dinosaur in the field of medicine). He put my husband's health in jeopardy in an attempt to control how my husband chose to conduct his own medical care. In such a supposedly progressive, health minded little community, I'm shocked that there aren't wellness minded, proactive physicians in Ridgway. This lack of excellent medical wellness care is a very difficult to deal with situation that I didn't discover until after I moved here.
As a care giver to an elderly lady, I was to drive her to her appointment with Dr. Gates. The lady was running late and I called his office stating the problem and we would be there in 10 minutes. The receptionist ask what time was her appointment? I said 1:50. The receptionist replied it is 1:51 p.m. You will have to reschedule. The elderly lady has prior history of stroke and heart attack. I have scheduled an appointment with a different doctor for I will not tolerate a non-caring attitude for the elderly.
Whole family loves Dr Joel. Great bedside manner; caring and kind. Talks directly to children before asking parent about them. Makes all feel good. Excellent follow up via phone or return visit. Besides being a good doctor, just a nice guy.
He was a great doc speant lots of time with my complex health issues. We lost our insurance and he got not so caring. i applied for medicaid and then when that time elapsedwith no answer, i got a lawyer to get my medicaid. I added up where he made OVER 56 K in the 12 prior months off insurance, yet on cash pay he is short and I have been threatened to be let go unless we can come up with half my 2000 dollar bill. there are 11 in my family, 5 with insurance, and rest of us will have caid soon- but meanwhile self pay he is not nice as was, blows me off when I try to talk to him, he used to take up to 2 hours with me if needed. I just thought he was a refreshing different dr. I was wrong, money driven as the rest of dr i ever went to see. I can't wait to get on medicaid just to show him the diference if he will listen
Not only an excellent physician, but an exceptional human being.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
