Bruce Altman's Online Review Report Card

Dr Altman is the best.. very good and knowledgeable about glaucoma which I have had for 45 years. I was passed over to him by Dr Falkenstein , both of whom I am glad to have had! My family Dr told me why go to Boston when the best are here in Danbury and I agree, .

Dr. Altman is extremely thorough. He is never rushing out of the exam room when you have more questions to ask. He does not pressure you in any way, and because of this I am scheduling my caztaract surgery with him in a week and a half from now.

I find Dr. Altman to be a kind and knowledgeable physician. He listens and answers all questions and concerns with information that is understandable. His manner is calm and concise. I have never felt rushed. His staff is friendly and professional.

Staff is extremely unhelpful. You have a patient who is elderly, severely visually impaired , and frail who clearly has a caregiver with her and you insist we cannot enter the office we need to call prior. Your patient is visually impaired and cannot see to call AND you have us stopped in the doorway of an automatic door that keeps closing and knocking her over. Extremely displeased with the service and compassion of the office staff.

Their set-up is that you have to pay for everything! Who has ever had an eye exam not by the doctor btw, but a young lady - what qualifies her to do an exam. There is a sign on the wall you have to pay for your prescription. Outrageous! Agree with the previous reviewer, he is not the friendliest and you are made to feel like he is doing you a favor. Last you are ushered to the eyeglass group down the hall that could not get my bifocals right twice. Gave up and them! They are more interested in making money than people - disgusting!

Putting aside that he's highly knowledgeable and personable, I was most impressed when I could hear him in the room next to me speaking to an elderly woman about glaucoma. For a full 10 minutes he answered her questions; explained in layman's terms the types of treatment, side effects, and results for most of his patients. In spite of the fact that she repeated the same questions and kept hesitating about what to do, he never became impatient or annoyed. He apologized for keeping me waiting

Found him to be non communicative, very stiff and not helpful. Yale has been 100 times more helpful than Bruce Altman ever was.

Completely incompetent as a physician. Demonstrates an extreme disregard for patients' wellbeing. When I told him I was experiencing pain, he responded, "Good, now look into the lens here". He absolutely possesses the stereotypical God complex and speaks down to his patients; he even rose his voice to me when I misunderstood him. I've observed him speaking down to staff members as well. He firmly believes his time is invaluable and yours is expendable. The four times I have been in to see him, he has failed to follow through with the plans made in the preceding appointment. For example, when I was scheduled for surgery, he claimed I was not and repeated the same pre-op consultation that he had administered the week before. The number of days I have taken off from work for this man is unbelievable. He may be a knowledgeable specialist in his field, but he is truly a cold, compassionless person.
