John Awad's Online Review Report Card

Think when you’re dealing with spinal/neurological surgeries, experience is key. Dr. Awad shows great skill and has a robust and long resume when it comes to spine surgeries. I see some reviews that are lower due to “long wait time” and “no one got back to me” and while that may be annoying, I think once your under the knife those types of admin issues seem to fade in comparison to the skill and patience he shows in the operating room. I had 3 surgeries with him and his co surgeons and it has been the best.

After going to doctors that only wanted to load me up with needles and pain mads, Dr. Tonya (for Dr. Awad) was a breath of fresh air. As a new patient, she really listened to me, was patient and understand and very kind. Her and the entire staff were so helpful and I left there with an actual long term care plan for my back. I would absolutely tell everyone to go to Dr. Tonya and Dr. Awad.

called on 11.13.19 to make appt for a second opinion on my L3 low back injury with severe pain, assistant took all my insurance info and I faxed over my medical records, all that went fine, I followed up with Dr.John Awad on 11.15.19 and the assistant did confirm they had all my documents and was waiting on the doctor to approve if he would receive me as a patient, I left numerous messages for his assistant Angela at ext.1106 and it is 11.19 .19 I am still in severe pain and have not heard back, I am now scheduled with OSG out of trumbull . I will be reporting this Doctor to the state department medical practice for the poor quality or even refusing to provide medical attention

Dr Awad is one of the the most professional, and patient oriented physicians’ I have seen. I have been in severe to excruciating pain for years. He took one look at my films and showed me what was needed to help my Scoliosis ( that only appeared in the past 6 months due to steroids for my MS I believe) - and disc protrusions with nerve compression . He explained what was needed to both my husband and I. He was able to answer our questions. He took the time needed, and is very humble yet very confident with his assessment. I too was referred to him. I await my Dexasc , they have so many people getting them that in waiting I fell and fractured a rib. I call daily now to see if there is a cancelation. We need to know if my bone is adequate for surgery now or I will be treated for the osteopenia if the scan shows it. I have been told by other physicians that he is not one to rush you into surgery, but makes sure that is what you need before proceeding. I thank DrPerry Shear who is as dr Awad and Dr Awad and his staff as well as the OSG walk in, who attended to my fear after the fall with much care and multiple films and kindness before and after they found the fractured 9th rib that is on the mend. 20 Years of pain. I have been through a lot Doctors. I’ve had may x-rays, Cat scans and MRI’s. Evidence was there, No one cared or wanted to help maybe they weren’t qualified. I don’t know. Thru a wonderful friend who seen firsthand my pain recommended Dr. Awad. Within a month in a half I was almost pain free. I have the return of my back Oh so sweet. He is by far the best Doctor, Caring Doctor I have ever met. You have no idea how thankful I am Dr. Awad!! His Staff is superb the office was superb. I would recommend him to anybody.

I had several problems with my cervical spine. Dr. Awad's surgical skills, took all my pain away & I was closely followed, post op.

Appointment wait times from 45 minutes to over 1 hour completely unacceptable, and is the standard. Dr. Awad should not be taking new patients; or, his staff should change their approach to how patients are scheduled. Post-op patients should never be seen on the same day as new patient consultations. No respect for the patients time. Witnessed 2 patients of his walk out of the wait room completely frustrated with wait time stating they'd never return. Look for another specialist.

Dr. Awad was most accommodating and thorough before my surgery date. He was kind, engaged, and medically knowledgeable while in the office. The morning of my surgery he was agitated, rude, and in a rush with both myself and my nurse. No bedside manner or concern for my possibly being nervous or even introducing himself to my husband who was in the cubicle with us. I have not even had a conversation with him since my surgery. Although, I have had phone call and visits with the neurosurgeon who performed the surgery with him, Dr. Awad dropped the communication ball. I find his behavior the day of surgery and after to be unprofessional and uncompassionate.

Dr. Awad takes time to listen to you and talk about your condition and the pain it causes, and he actually cares about how you feel. He's not pushing you into surgery and offers other ways to relieve your symptoms. He's pleasant, informative and doesn't rush you out the door and his credentials are impressive. That in itself is impressive. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
