List of John Birk's Reviews
He has a 2 week excessive clean out preparation which caused me to have diarrhea for 2 weeks excessive skin irritation and ended up in the ER with electrolytes issues. Please be same and go some place else avoid him and his staff at UCONN.
I never met Dr. Birk. I met his APRN Kendra at UConn. It took me 4 months to get an appointment and another 6 months to be scheduled for a colonoscopy/endoscopy. The prep process he requires is 2 weeks of prep. This process was excessive and led them canceling the test and me ending up in the emergency room with electrolytes issues. This is his process which benefits the hospital and in no way benefits the patient. The procedure is excessive and out of the ordinary. See out another doctor and NEVER UConn gastroenterology. The made a simple routine procedure prep into a 2 week nightmare.
Routine colonoscopy procedure excessive prep I was seen by his APRN who gave me a two week clean out process for a simple routine colonoscopy. I never met him and after two weeks of diarrhea I ended up in the ER with electrolytes issues.
Do not recommend! Horrible hospital care for my husband. Inept at communicating with both patient and surgical team. Dismissive! Avoid at all costs.
Doesn’t care Didn’t know he ordered a test for me and then asked ME what he sent if for.
Extremely knowledgeable. Caring. Committed.
I have barretts esophagus and take prescription pills daily prescribed by another gastro doctor for 6 years. He told me to "go on a pill vacation" without ever seeing my records and said take pepcid if I am not well and have aspirin daily which is better for me. I called a few days later in agony and he never returned my several calls though I told his staff I was in a lot of pain. He never called me. He is dangerous and should not practice medicine.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
