Saved my leg after having a clot and no blood flow for over 12 hours. A few of his students/team were great and others were not. My discharge & overall stay at John Dempsey was disappointing, and my care was below average. That's another subject in itself but my follow up appts are the focus on my rating.first one went great, and was well focused, attentive, bed side manner was good, no wait time. My second follow up, was useless. Had testing done, that went ok. Removal of stiches sucked. He didn't have the proper tools, and had to get the nurse to get replacements. Then his phone wouldn't stop ringing, and kept stepping out to take the calls. Every time he returned, he was less and less focused. I had many questions and only one was answered, and honestly he made me feel like I didn't matter and was rushed out. Wrote me a script without explaining anything and told me to tell my primary to make a referral to see a cardiologist. Didn't care that I have numbness, or any concerns about my incisions, didn't explain the test I had and results the nurse just explained what the test was. Didn't ask how rehab was going etc. I was greatly disappointed in the second followup I have another coming up, and I'm getting prepared on what to expect this time around. I thought he was great when I was hospitalized, though I only saw him 2x and only dealt with his students, he seemed to care and put my nerves to ease for my 2 emergency surgeries but I'm not thrilled with my aftercare.

Dr. Amankwah is a great surgeon and person. My mom had a nasty vascular disease, no other doctor would listen to her or help her...until we found Dr. Amankwah. He truly cared about her(and her family) he preformed 3 surgeries on her in upstate NY. We then followed him to UConn. Unfortunately, the disease was too aggressive and her tiny body couldn't handle anymore. Because of his expertise-He gave us extra time with her, and for that I will always be grateful for him!

Dr. Amankwah is an awesome surgeon. He is smart with a great attitude and outstanding bedside manner. He is very thorough with his explanations and answered all my questions and concerns. I was very fortunate to have him as my doctor/surgeon when I was diagnosed with an aneurysm in my iliac artery.
