Subpar care
Our dad spent the last 4 years of his life here. While not so much a reflection on the Hearth, it is an institution. We felt we had no choice as he suffered from some dementia and was not able to fully care for himself at home. He was a WWII vet. When he arrived in the U.S. after the war, he took the "train they call the City of New Orleans" to Carbondale, IL, then another train to his home. His twin brother was killed in the war and his mother half expected to lose our dad as well. Nevertheless, he lived on and flourished in his life, only to end up in an institution, never to return home, draining most of his life's fortune, eating "Cisco" food (he got two choices of cuisine), locked in, and having to hang with people he often said were "crazier" than he. I was not fond of the food. Although our dad, having lost some sense of smell and taste, thought it was fine, and the staff was kind enough to offer me a lunch when I visited. I could offer a few suggestions. Not only is this a locked-in facility, it is a locked-out one as well. A few times I stood for a length of time after ringing the bell waiting for someone to break away from their busy schedule to unlock the door. My dad called the place a "prison." He as aware enough to know he was locked in. Sad as it was, I considered his sentiments a result of his dementia. Perhaps there could be a faster way to let family in? I didn't see many volunteers. A volunteer can offer one-to-one attention, is not bound by a performance-driven schedule, or worried about pay, benefits or hours. There was a religious service I think. If you guys haven't reached out to the community, you might consider doing so. (I have some experience in this). I also thought it would have been nice to see a care dog. Maybe, unlike hospitals, regulations forbid such a thing? While our dad was not so fond of dogs, he may have warmed up to something like a cockadoodle. Overall, as others have said, the place was clean and did not smell, it has a nice center courtyard and I thought the cognitive-helping activities were nice. And the high point of course, was that it is safe.
Horrible management... Don't suggest working here whatsoever.
Management is horrible and white lady in kitchen with sun burn put her finger in my food
The Hearth at Glastonbury is welcoming, warm and I would recommend this community to anyone looking for a senior living community.
Find the staff polite and friendly. would recommend it to family and friends.
First I need to say that all the staff here are wonderful, caring, and hard working, but there are too few people in every department, so it is impossible to get the help you need. When you use the buzzers they give us, there is no way to indicate if you have an emergency or just need someone to pick a piece of paper off the floor. You may, therefore, have to wait an hour or more before anyone comes to help you. The head chef works really hard to make good meals, but the food budget is so small that we mainly have ground beef, small servings of dry fish, and too much pasta, potatoes, bread, and other carbohydrates, also too much fried food.
10 months into Covid the facility management has failed in many ways for our family. The Hearth Glastonbury in my opinion slow to follow CDC recommendations on PPE. Slow to test staff and residents regularly, until recently. They have been retisent to recognize Assisted Living in Ct as a landlord lessee rental arrangement and covid data statistical reporting. They routinely refuse to initially follow gubernatorial executive orders, such as lowering of quaratine time from 14 to 20 days. Essentially, this facility now is low or no services for months and months. 10 residents dead the best I can count, not sure about staff. The future is an endless series of lockdown and punish elderly with roon quarantines. You can't go to church, no family in apartments month 10, no ER visit yes ER visit gets your old folks 14 day quarantine. For 6k a month your stuck in your room alone declining and frightened. Sure move out, that was management's advice when slamming residents with aggressive rent increases in the during the pandemic. Disconnected. I was told "its business"It's not east to move a 90 year old with nees. Fed up family member. I see they are getting near 70 percent capacity. Maybe business will be just that, bankruptcy.
This was a fantastic facility. My(see update below}mom had been there for over a year in Keepsake Village (memory unit) and I had nothing but good things to say about the care. Most of the staff really cares. Nowhere is perfect and to be honest there have been a few bumps in the road but management has been exceptional in their handling of the situations. We have had a few issues in the dining room but the staff is taking my suggestions seriously and adjustments are being made. That said, the CARE was very very good, the facility was pretty clean. My mom's room there is big enough to have been able to make it very homelike. I think some people think the memory unit is set up like a nursing home but they have private rooms that lock. It is very much like the Assisted Living side but with a lot more assistance and supervision. Fast forward a few months.. food is getting worse and management has changed and not for the better as near as I can tell. All management has left or been let go. Not the same place at all. Lost that friendly feeling and now everything in disarray. Look carefully at your options. Stay tuned. Update after leaving (forced out) We had to leave The Hearth because nursing insisted that my mom needed a private duty aide 24/7 (approximately $17000 per month) on top of us paying for a two person assist and a hoyer lift OR they said we should look into skilled nursing. They said they couldn't handle her aggression and combativeness during care (she weighs 110). Well we moved to The Village at Buckland Court 3 weeks ago and guess what? No aggression or combativeness and they have stopped using the hoyer lift. She is just a two person assist now. We feel like we were forced out of The Hearth for reasons we don't understand. Either they can't do their job properly or they are tremendously under staffed. It's too bad as we made a lot of friends there. Communication with management is difficult at best here. Very frustrating experience. Look elsewhere.
Awful place to work. New ED is on a power trip. Be careful if you chose to work here.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
