Edward Chen Md's Online Review Report Card

I had a similar experience as the previous review, Dr. Chen doesn't seem to listen or hear what I'm saying. It feels like he's either too busy to pay attention, or just doesn't know the answers. I'm going to try a different physician to see if I'm more comfortable. I've had pretty good luck with the rest of the office. The nurses and associates are always friendly. I really like the MyMercy portal. ---update. I've downgraded Dr. Chen to 1 star. Dr. Chen apparently didn't like my review. He sent a letter giving me 30 days to find a doctor outside of his office, and stated the reason as being that I did something inappropriate to the staff in the office. Oh Dr. Chen... do better!!! Dr. Chen is my primary physician, but I've been trying to switch to another. (once you start working with him, they don't want to switch you to another doctor in the same office). I think he's probably a nice enough person, but he doesn't pay attention. He either has too many other things on his mind, or he's just arrogant and doesn't think he needs to listen. It's like trying to talk to a brick wall. I've tried talking directly with him about my concerns, but he doesn't get it. Thankfully, I've been able to get some help from the nurse practitioner in the office, and I've turned to my chiropractor to answer medical questions. I'm sure he means well, but if you're someone who wants to make informed decisions about your health, I don't recommend Dr. Chen. If you want a doctor to do what he thinks is best and you don't want to talk about it, then he might be a good fit for you.

worst "doctor" ever!!!! very unprofessional and he didnt even want to wesr gloves. i had to say something. ive called for results and he answer saying "call back later, im busy" i never got answer or a call back. he yells at his staff in front of the patients and doesnt care at all for anyone. never again!!! dont come here!!!!

I was referred to Dr. Chen by a very well respected surgeon, as I had severe back pain and had three surgeries on my spine previously, and the last one almost took my life and I could not risk another surgery. At first, Dr. Chen treated me with steroid injections before considering a spinal stimulator. Unfortunately, the injections did not help. We then proceeded with a trial of the spinal stimulator, which took about 7 days. I went through the trial, and it was successful. However, Dr. Chen did not explain too much about the stimulator itself and that there are two types: one that is implanted in the lower back permanently without a belt, but the one he carries (Stimware) requires a belt be worn with an external battery that has to be charged. Dr. Chen just carries the one that has to be charged, wearing an external belt for the rest of one's life. I asked if there was an alternative that did not require a belt, and he said there was one, and I asked why he didn't explain that to me, and he said it was because he didn't carry it. I asked why he didn't explain this earlier so that I would have had a choice to stay with him or see another physician. Unfortunately, Dr. Chen's bedside manner is not the best, and his front staff manners leave a lot to be desired and they were rude, and as rude as Dr. Chen. For example he spoke with my daughter long distance and in the middle of the conversation he left the room. That's how impolite he was. I then decided to go back to my surgeon for another referral, and after I wrote to Dr. Chen and requested my records numerous times, he never responded in a timely manner. Additionally they violated my confidentiality in retaliation to my stating that I was going to go to a different doctor. Finally, his office has way too many patients and they can't care for all of their patients, and give them the individual care that they deserve.

Doesn’t listen to patients. And not personable.

this doctor prefers doing c section.he will not do a vbac "for your own good" even if you are a great candidate . even the nurses warned me that he only prefers c sections.please go else where or ask for a different doctor to deliever or stay as far away from this place if you want normal vagnial birth.doctors like him deserve to lose their license woman now have unnecessary c sections because people like him are lazy and want to go the fast route and do not give woman a chance.money hungry monster.

This office is terrible! I have been trying to get in contact with someone to make an appointment and the one time someone called me back they seemed annoyed by me. We like Dr. Chen as a physician but his receptionist and staff need to get it together. They lost 2 patients today! My husband and I need an office that makes us a priority. Dr. Chen is very professional, knowledgeable, and never in a hurry. He listens to and discusses with me. Gives medicine when appropriate, but doesn't push it. He has appropriate tests and blood work performed to get to the bottom of things when needed. I have been extremely happy with him and his staff.

Dr Chen is OK but the staff is HORRIBLE. About 50% of the requests they have to authorize arent correct or arent completed in my experience and you can never call the office and get ahold of anyone. Furthermore the staff calls back on voicemails only sometimes. Makes me wonder if the staff could cause a malpractice case against the doctor their service is so bad.
