Dr. Shoup listens to his patients and cares about their health. Every doctor should be like him.

Love this guy ,very nice gentleman and sharp as a tack.Easy to talk to.

We waited 2 months for an appointment regarding an urgent sleep condition and were turned away at the desk because the office had double booked our time. Apparently a follow-up takes priority over an urgent problem from a former patient.

Excellent Communication with patients. He explain everything to you about the condition your have.

Dr shoup while very nice demeanor doesn't go to bat for you if there's an issue regarding compliance( he is not interested in why) compliance is when you successfully wear your mask at least 4 hours a night. It doesn't matter to Dr shoup or his staff if your machine doesn't register right or that you wear it every single night 3 or more hours registered and most nights have a period of 7 hours registered. ( It's still incorrect I do wear it more!! I'd say that he doesn't seem to care at all except when it comes to getting his fees. I'd steer clear of this one and ask the Sleep MD about compliance practices before you make appointment. If you do not ask this you be in for a rude awakening.

Unprofessional!

Shoup performed a sleep study on me and diagnosed me with severe sleep apnea and prescribed a CPAP machine. The machine did not work properly and the provider was not helpful in repairing it. At the time I was getting 8 - 9 hours of sleep a day and functioning O.K. so I gave up. Conditions changed and I became unable to sleep more than 4 or 5 hours. The short amount of sleep plus the apnea made it almost impossible for me to function. I needed help badly. Went back to Shoup's and literally begged for help. His response; we're busy come back and see us in 6 MONTHS. At the rate I was going in 6 months I probably would have been dead. Went to the sleep center at the UCONN Medical center in Farmington where they were terrific. Actually beyond terrific. The Doctors could nor have been more concerned or professional. They solved the problem the Shoup wouldn't. Feel better than now not only before my recent issues but before I saw Shoup in the first place.

I've seen him three times. My opinion is he is a little pushy - that is pushy in getting me to buy more products that he sells based on his medical opinion. I get the impression he is more interested in pushing his products than accurate medical opinion.

He adv as Pulmonologist and sleep med but won't discuss asthma and its affect on sleep apnea. He spends the majority of your new patient appointment describing CPAP machines. He says he sends you home with a trial machine to try it out and get used to it. Then you find out your ins is being charged $2,000 for the equipment and you own it whether it works for you or not. He says he will call patients but refused to call me when I had a problem and made an appt to talk in office. I cam in 7 min late for an appointment and he told me he would not see me because he had a new patient visit and he would see me in an hour. When I called his CPAP machine for a problem with a raging red throat after the first night, she told me off that I didn't remember all her instructions and then gave me bad advice to turn the humidity dial up to top level of humidity which I found out the hard way fills the mask and tubing with water and suffocates the user. He sells CPAP machines as a priority.
