Dr Mascarenas is extremely professional, knowledgeable and personable. It’s a busy practice but I have always felt she gives 100% attention during my visits. Except for the first visit there is a minimum of paperwork and most can br completed online.

I’ve been a patient of Dr Mascarhenas for several years now. She is an amazing person, doctor, surgeon. I leave the care of my eyes in her hands and have complete faith in the treatments, surgeries that I’ve received from her. I highly recommend her.

I have been a patient of Dr Mascarenhas since I was first diagnosed with glaucoma in 2012. As my glaucoma has progressed I have required various drops and a number of surgical procedures to prevent vision loss. My treatment is complicated by the fact that I am highly sensitive to having my eyes examined and squeamish about eyes in general. Dr. Mascarenhas’s skilled and compassionate care has been essential in ensuring that all appropriate strategies are employed to effectively preserve my vision. Dr. Mascarenhas is highly trained and well versed in the newest treatments, surgical interventions, and technologies. She also has the ability to communicate medical information in terms that a layperson like myself can understand. As a result, Dr. Mascarenhas’s approach to my care has felt more collaborative than directive. I am always very clear on what is going on with my eyes, what my treatment options are, and exactly what I need to do to ensure the best possible outcome in preserving my vision. Having worked for many years as a social worker in a hospital setting, and as the wife of a Physician Assistant, I know how difficult it can be to maintain one’s humanity while treating complex and harmful diseases. Dr. Mascarenhas’s outstanding clinical skills are equaled by the genuine concern she has for her patients. As difficult as it has been for me to adjust to the impact that glaucoma has had on my life, I consider myself fortunate to have a doctor in whom I trust so implicitly. I cannot recommend Dr. Mascarenhas more highly.

We had a short relationship with this doctor. An initial visit that went well, a second visit rescheduled by us, a third visit rescheduled by her. She was put off that we would not use the eye drops she prescribed costing us over $300. We asked if we could stay on the drops taken for over10 years. We then received a certified letter telling us we were not her kind of client and asked us to go find someone else. We were blown away!

I have been nearsighted my entire life. I wore glasses and contacts but not full time due to the inconvenience and vanity. I was more or less adjusted to my poor eyesight which was a really foolish way to live. When I hit my 60s I suddenly realized that my poor eyesight was rapidly deteriorating further, enough to motivate me to seek out an eye doctor. I started seeing Dr. Shriver and his staff, and they examined my eyes and informed me that I had cataracts. So, time for surgery. This was 2 years ago. I cannot stress how pleased I am with the result. The Dr. and his staff took me step by step through the experience and although I was frightened at the thought of surgery on my eyes, it was really a virtually painless procedure. As my eyes healed (very quickly) I was amazed to find that not only were my cataracts removed but my vision was improved to the point that I no longer even needed glasses for distance. Amazing! I would urge anyone with a similar situation to consider this vision-saving procedure and Dr. Shriver is someone to put your confidence in.

I am 47 and had been comfortable with my glasses my whole life; but the annoyances of wearing glasses while playing with my very energetic seven-year-old son brought me to ask Dr. Shriver about the Lasik procedure in which he specializes. Dr. Shriver and his team recently performed Lasik on both of my formerly very, very myopic eyes. Literally hours after the completion of the surgery, my vision was better than 20/20 without glasses. I am now looking forward to a very physically active and sporting life with my son and my friends. I am also an avid birder and can’t wait to get out into the field without any glasses to remove every time I bring the binoculars up to my eyes. The procedure was smooth and easy from start to finish, surprisingly short. And the recovery was equally fast and easy. My expectations for the procedure and results were far exceeded by the reality. Dr. Shriver and his team made this a wonderful experience for me, from start to finish, and I would urge anyone feeling burdened or encumbered by glasses and/or contacts to consider consulting with him about Lasik. For me, it was a real game changer, opening up a broader prospect for remaining active in my middle-age years and beyond.

In spite of the stressful demands of her busy practice, Dr. Mascarenhas maintains a cheerful, calm demeanor. She has a knack for explaining and answering questions about the structure and function of the eyes, the procedures to be performed and the anticipated outcomes. In mom’s words, “Cataract surgery was a success, now I can read the newspaper and do my checkbook without my glasses.” We recommend Dr. Kristy Mascarenhas for anyone in need of a knowledgeable, skilled, caring ophthalmologist.
