Benjamin Stein's Online Review Report Card

I broke my 5th Metatarsal in my right foot in 2016. I had multiple surgeries, to include a stem cell transplant, donated bone marrow, countless hours using a bone stimulator and endless physical therapy - all to no avail. The fracture simply would not heal, limiting my mobility. In late 2021 I was referred to Dr. Stein. He performed reconstructive surgery in Jan 2022. At this point, it was not a simply surgery; my tendons, ligaments, and hardware were all out of whack. Despite all these challenges- I am healed! Dr. Stein is not only a gifted surgeon, but is wonderful and caring. His PA, Lauren George is also stellar- she went above and beyond in providing care and encouragement during the Post op months. I was not an easy case, and had several post op challenges. Lauren was always quick to respond and find a solution to keep progress moving forward. She did not give up! I am incredibly blessed to have been referred to Dr. Stein. I highly recommend both Dr. Stein and Lauren George.

Excellent doctor!! Explains everything thoroughly. His treatment plan is always spot-on and he sets realistic expectations for recovery. I would highly recommend Dr Stein!

Dr. Stein is a fantastic doctor. He accurately diagnosed my back issues and came up with a treatment plan that has significantly enhanced my quality of life. What is equally impressive is how well-run the front of house is. The check-in process is easy and I didn't have to wait long for an appointment. I am especially grateful for the support his practice provided in dealing with an insurance dispute. Very impressive. One of the best experiences I've had with a provider.

Dr. Stein did a triple fusion and neurectomy on my left foot and ankle. I can walk again with less pain than I have experienced in decades. Very satisfied.

When I broke my ankle last year, I had 4 separate people mention Dr. Stein as the go to. After meeting him, it was clear that he was who I should see - he knew his stuff and explained my surgery with great detail which I really appreciated. I also appreciated that he understood what I meant when I told him that I needed him to not only fix my ankle, but also to know that I was going to push the ankle and the rest of the body back into extreme fitness sports that I had been doing. Fast forward a year later, I ran my 1st half marathon super fast and have placed in other fitness races. The road to recovery was no joke but thanks to a fabulous surgeon and his team, I'm completely pain-free, have full range of motion, and am in even better shape than where I left off.

Everyone is professional. The doctor is stellar and the office atmosphere is pleasant. I wish they would have subtitles on the TV in the waiting area.

After breaking my ankle my primary doc referred me to Dr. Ben Stein. He a gifted surgeon and I am grateful for his level of care, professionalism and personal attention as well as that of his entire office. Mine was a bad break. Thanks to Dr. Stein my ankle is as good as new!!

Dr. Benjamin E. Stein, MD of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Washington, DC is probably the worst orthopedic doctor in the Washington, DC area: he is more of a businessman masquerading as an orthopedist. When I visited Dr. Stein's office, I was (eventually, after a long wait) taken to the X-Ray room. The X-Ray room contained an X-ray apparatus that looks to be years obsolete. Other orthopedic clinics in the Washington, DC area have more sophisticated diagnostic equipment. The X-ray technician took X-rays of my feet and knees and then it was time to meet Dr. Benjamin Stein.I told Dr. Stein of the problems I have been having: 1) an injured big toe on my right foot; 2) persistent soreness in my knees, especially when walking on stairs; and 3) I need new orthotic foot pads. Dr. Stein then addressed each problem in the most cavalier manner:1) Dr. Stein examined the X-rays of my injured big toe: a very small bone fragment has splintered off and is pressing against the flesh in the top of the toe causing pain. Apparently from the X-ray, it was evident even to a medical neophyte like myself that it needed to be surgically removed. Instead, Dr. Stein simply said it will heal by itself. A few weeks later, it is still evident that the bone fragment has not healed back into place and needs surgical removal.2) Dr. Stein said the X-rays did not reveal any problem with my knees. I have to admit that to my untrained eye that I could not see any visible damage to my knees from the X-ray, but I asked Dr. Stein why the soreness in my knees persists. Dr. Stein said he didn't know. I asked Dr. Stein if there was no improvement in my knees nine months from now and I remain in pain would he write a letter to my landlord noting that walking on the stairs in my house causes me pain in my knees and recommend that my landlord release me from my lease so I could rent an apartment with no stairs. Dr. Stein looked at me as if I had asked him to kill someone for me and took offense saying that he did not write such letters. I suppose he has never heard of the phrases "reasonable accommodation of a medical condition" or "supporting documentation." 3) I explained to Dr. Stein that I have a genetic disorder that creates a larger than normal dorsal bones in my feet that extend bottom-wise half-an-inch or so, requiring orthopedic foot pads - at least two other orthopedic doctors explained that to me previously. Dr. Stein said he had never heard of any such genetic disorder of the dorsal bone! Where did he go to medical school?!Dr. Stein simply gave me a prescription for new orthotic pads and a few weeks later I received a bill for a total of $245.56 for the X-rays. Apparently, Dr. Stein charges approximately twice for X-rays the amount that Blue Cross/Blue Shield will pay for, so we patients have to pay a large co-payment and deductible to The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics.If your doctor refers you to Dr. Benjamin Stein or any other doctor at the The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Washington, DC refuse the referral and find a new doctor who will refer a better orthopedic doctor or orthopedic clinic (I am changing primary care doctors because my current one always refers me to mediocre specialists, which is why I ended up seeing Dr. Stein.). Please find yourself a better orthopedic doctor: you will receive only inadequate care and excessive bills from Dr. Benjamin Stein and The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Washington, DC.

Dr. Stein is truly an outstanding orthopedic surgeon. He reconstructed my Achilles tendon in January. I cannot say enough about how professional, responsive, and caring he and his staff have been. His PA, Lauren George is awesome. Dr. Stein is without a doubt one of the best doctors I have ever seen. I am so grateful that he was the one to do my surgery.

Dr. Stein was professional, compassionate and knowledgeable. While breaking my foot was not the highlight of my summer, if I had to break something again, 10/10 would go back to his office for help.
