After the shock of my diagnosis subsided, I was facing what would surely be a bilateral mastectomy. I knew I had to find an excellent surgeon who would expertly take over and guide my treatment. But where to start? Luckily, I was blessed to find Dr. Teal through Yelp. I was so impressed with the many 5-star reviews of Dr. Teal and her team at GWU Breast Cancer Center, I felt I had to begin my recovery journey with them. Now, 6 weeks post-surgery, I'm pleased to say everyone has been excellent. My surgery went well, the GWU hospital staff was kind and attentive, and I'm on my way to a full recovery. As an 80-year-old lady, I was concerned about the after-effects of general anesthesia, but expert anesthesiologist, Dr. Roland, reassured me and I suffered no nasty loss of cognition whatsoever. If you are facing the dreaded diagnosis of breast cancer, please do not hesitate to contact the GW Breast Cancer Center.

My visit with Dr. Teal was very disappointing. She expressed zero empathy regarding my situation of stage 0 breast cancer and immediately recommended a mastectomy. It felt like a conveyor belt factory of 'one more mastectomy to do'. When I asked for other options she matter of fact stated that mastectomy was the only option. My research into this type of cancer all recommended speaking with an oncologist prior to any surgery. When I asked to speak with an oncologist, Dr. Teal responded that she is the decision-maker and there was no need to speak with any other doctors. It is better when doctors work with you as a team is what is recommended, which is opposite what Dr. Teal's approach is. When I asked to speak with her other patients in my situation who had gone through the procedure, she promised to provide some people I could speak with but after three requests she has failed to provide even one name. I do not recommend this doctor.

I had a terrible experience at the GW Breast Cancer Center. The communication was so poor at every juncture that I was not able to get the basic care I needed. Ladies, spare yourself this experience.

The breakdown of GW staff communication at this Breast Center here is dangerous and heartbreaking for someone looking for help in diagnosing cancer. Ladies, spare yourself from this clinic.

Dr. Teal is wonderful. She was my surgeon 5 years ago when I was first diagnosed with breast cancer. I've been seeing her ever since and have referred her to other people. She is not the touchy-feely type, but I like her direct manner. I rarely wait more than a few minutes for my appointments and her staff are efficient.

Dr Teal- Your center clearly prioritizes quantity over quality. I have been ordered to schedule a series of appointments/tests/follow ups because of my family history. Of course- the MRIs have been done. I guess that's how you make money. But no one there actually cares about the results or scheduling the follow ups your center says is necessary. I would never coordinate cancer care through your center. Everyone there has demonstrated that they could not possibly care less.
