List of Dennis R. Murphy's Reviews
I have seen Dr. Murphy for over a decade, and he generally sucks and his office is horrible. I have a good reason for keeping him, but his reputation is a joke. Doctors buy them with a publicist. Dr. Murphy is openly hostile to any specialist. He never sends me to specialists, refuses to treat for the problem requiring a specialist, then sends insulting notes to the specialist (world class experts who laugh at the letters and suggest I get a new doctor). Has ignored dangerous health problems, that nearly killed me, after I complained for years. Refuses to perform basic men's health testing that are unpleasant but clearly qualify as malpractice. People say he's great, but med students, nurses, and social workers tell a different story. Not a good one.
DR. Murphy is great, but like all doctors today lacks follow up. He promises to review an important item in my lab results (a critical item, that he says is making me totally debilitated). He actually promised to do it twice. He never does it. Never follows through. I had to go to another doctor to have them review the lab results that Dr. Murphy ordered. His staff is terrible. Argued with prescription lady for 30 minutes one day before she agreed to refill a med. She was sure she had done it already, doesn't matter if it doesn't reach pharmacy. I guess if they get paid McDonald's wages they will be the worst, and they are. I called him twice before surgery about a medication he manages and never heard back. Had to cancel the surgery. Great doctor, McDonald's staff is ruining him. Too bad.
Simply put; Dr. Murphy is the finest physician that I have ever seen in my 53 years. Not only are his diagnostic skills the best; you decidedly get the feeling..........no; let me rephrase that. I'm quite certain that he cares; and that's something that you just don't have with most doctors. I never get the feeling that he's in cahoots with the pharmacuetical companies. In other words, he doesn't want to get me hooked on a bunch of drugs so that he can get some kind points with the drug companies. Rather; I always get the feeling that the things he recommends are out ofr a genuine concern for my health and well being. Again.........bottom line; in my humble opinion; Dr. Murphy is the best there is!
Oustanding doctor and very knowledgeable. He takes the time to ask the right questions and also your history. Waits can be lengthy in the busy office, but you will receive the care you want.
I will say only this; Dr. Dennis Murphy is the finest physician by far that I have ever seen in my 53 years. Not only is he a highly skilled doctor, but I can tell that he cares; and to me........that is huge!
even a broken clock gets it right twice a day, and dr dennis murphy's office got it right finally. recently i left a VM on the office's prescription refill line, and my prescriptions were actually refilled.
I left seven voicemails over six weeks, on this office's 'test results' line, each time leaving my name, DOB, doctor's name, insurer's name, and telephone number, twice, each time. I got no return phone calls. Finally, I went into the office and left a message on Wednesday, April 27. I got a return call five days later on Monday, May 2. I wanted results from a simple sleep study conducted at another department at Georgetown. It is hard to believe how badly Dr Murphy's message system is broken, but this is what happens. Whether it is a simple prescription question or a call for test results, weeks and weeks of calls are not returned. Next, I end up going in, not being seen, but leave a message, which is usually returned in a couple days. It really is unacceptable.
I wish i could give them NO stars. This doctor is NOT my doctor, so let me start by saying that. He has never treated me, however, I was treated by another doctor whom i wanted to make a formal complaint about and I was told that he was the Department head. So, I contacted him on Thursday, April 7 asking that he call me back so that I can file a complaint. To date, he has yet to return my call. I'm not sure if they are THAT busy that they don't have time to respond to a patients concerns, but if that is true they should probably not exist. If you are the head of the department and I am told that I need to contact you to make a complaint you need to respond to find out what is going on with the patient. I am contacting him again today, if i don't here from him by Tuesday of next week (4/19/11) I will be contacting Patient Advocacy to make a complaint against HIM. For it's reputation, Georgetown University Internal Medicine sure does STINK.
Doctor Dennis Murphy has been my primary care physician for over five years. I am treated regularly at his office, 1-3 times a year but I have never met him. He has never introduced himself or shook my hand.--I do not know what he looks like. Instead, he has residents treat me. From Dr Clutchnick over 5 years ago, to Dr Walid this year, all of the residents have been friendly, easy to talk to, and helpful. Thus, even though I have never met my primary care physician, the treatment I receive in the office is excellent. The same cannot be said about communications with Dennis Murphy's office. I have left three voicemails over the past three weeks to get test results and still await a reply. Earlier this year, I had a prescription question, and I had to leave eight voicemails over 6 1/2 weeks to get one return phone call. Georgetown's Internal Medicine office is notorious in this regard, both within Georgetown Hospital and in Washington, DC generally. For example, an employee of another department tells me she calls Internal Medicine in the name of her Chief of Surgery and prominent doctor--and the department does not return calls. A pharmacist downtown I use tells me stories about irate patients of this Dr Murphy's, who tell him about the lengths to which they have to go to get a response--if at all-from his office. If you want contact with your primary care physician and a doctor's office that is responsive to your questions and concerns, Dr Murphy is NOT for you. If, however, you enjoy having great doctors and great doctor's offices at Georgetown--which I do with three other departments--you may want to keep Dr Murphy, as I have done...
Dr. Murphy is the best! It takes forever to see him, but once he is with you, he will take the time to answer all the questions and explain to you. He is a trustworthy and a very caring doctor. I love this doctor.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
