Ira Shocket's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Shocket processes all the qualities of an excellent physician. He has cared for me and my family for many years. I travel from Southern Maryland just to see him. I know I am in the hands of a well educated and compassionate MD who leads his team of GI specialist who are practicing the latest in medical advancement. Highly recommend the Chevy Chase Endoscopy Center.

I like Dr Shocket he has a warm friendly personality and has a very reassuring way about him I feel confident and comfortable with him 😊

Dr Shocket is so caring and smart. A great listener and creative problem solver. I really get high quality care from him. I’m extremely grateful! I’ve seen many doctors over the years, many specialists. He stands out as one of the absolute best.

Dr Shocket was refreshingly attentive during our consult. 5/5 stars! My experience w MedStar, however was O - no stars! Forced to call the general line in order to return calls from Dr Shocket’s office was mind bogglingly frustrating. Made 3 attempts that culminated in so many transfers that I lost count, ultimately ending in a voice mailbox that was full! Thankfully, Diane from Dr Shocket’s office was a real & empowered human, was able to help me make my appointment. MedStar really needs to do better!

If I could rate no stars I would absolutely do just that. I had a appointment scheduled with Dr. Shocket to arrive on time , and be denied by the office manager by the name of Lashonda. I was denied my visit due to a previous health report. When I presented updated good standing information I was still denied. Lashonda couldn’t provide me with any policy documentation to substantiate why I was denied. Not too mention appointments are months out, and I’m dealing with a serious stomach issue. No virtual appointment was offered, and she assured me I would get a follow up call with a accommodating appointment. As, of today no call, no email!! Absolutely unprofessional, unethical, and unacceptable behavior from a specialty practice. I will not refer anyone to this office. To be so uncaring, and a lack of communication is unacceptable. It is the end of 2022, and I needed an emergency colonoscopy b/c of a cancer diagnosis, trying to get an appointment is impossible until after January, and that's not soon enough. Dr. Shocket's office managed to get me a telehealth appointment and a scheduled colonoscopy. It's less anxiety on me at a very stressful time in my life to know that one of the puzzles of my care has been taken care of, thanks to him and his staff.

Today was my first visit with Dr stocket he seem to me to be a pleasant man very knowledgeable which is important for people like myself that has a history of colon cancer, some doctors are so serious they're not really approachable ,Dr stocket was just the opposite I had a very positive visit.

Dr Shocket is the best. He saved my life

I absolutely LOVE Dr. Shocket!!! I’ve been a patient of his for over 2 decades! I needed the knowledge and experience of a highly qualified GI Dr. He is the BEST! And his bedside manner is unmatched! I was diagnosed with Crohn’s at John Hopkins where the best of the best Dr’s are, but I needed someone closer and Dr. Shocket was HIGHLY recommended! I had the best Dr’s at JHH, but I would travel 100 miles to see Dr. Shocket! I read the dissatisfaction of the patients who had to wait for months. Yes that is unacceptable, but he had and has no control of that. When I called, they told me 6 months, but I reached out to Dr. Shocket and he contacted the scheduling department and got me in. Please note, he is the Chief of the entire section, which says A LOT, I highly doubt that the executive board members of WHC hand that title and responsibility to any and every Dr, and he is only 1 man who has expressed his disappointment with how the scheduling is handled I bought this to his attention every time a scheduler would tell me he is booked for the next 6 months. He is very busy seeing patients and not answering the phones making appointments. If it’s not bought to his attention he cannot address it. There are other specialists in his office but most of the time he is the only one present seeing his patients and may have to take on other’s in EXTREME emergencies. For instance when my Humara stopped working, I was debilitated and couldn’t walk due to the worst pain I ever felt in my life. Dr. Shocket had to FIND the time to call another department within the hospital that is responsible for outpatient care. This includes cancer patients with longstanding appointments. He has no control over that department or their scheduling but he dedicated the time to convince them to schedule me to get a starter dose of Stelara ASAP! And take into consideration the paperwork HE has to fill out to achieve that. After that IV injection over the course of 3 hours, it was like I was given a miracle. So please take into consideration that he has existing patients and emergency patients that he also has to accommodate. Instead of leaving a negative response and he didn’t treat you or have the opportunity because he isn’t the one answering phones and scheduling appointments, use this platform to express dissatisfaction in the real issue, which is scheduling and not his care for his patients. If there are enough comments regarding the scheduling process and not his quality of care which if it’s negative, I’m almost certain he didn’t even get a chance to examine you. Again, if the real frustration and dissatisfaction is addressed he can and WILL make a case to demand improvement with the comments that specify that. He has two locations that he services along with seeing ER patients, and patients admitted in the hospital along with board meetings because he is the Chief. Again, instead of leaving negative reviews regarding him because I know for a fact this is one of the most caring, knowledgeable and experienced Drs in the area. With that said and taking all that into consideration, everyone has a choice to go see another doctor that has 3 stars and 2 star service with plenty available time slots. A lot of people don’t know you can reach him directly through your patient portal. Again, with all the day to day responsibilities he approaches with excitement because treating and helping patients is his passion, he does read his own emails.

Dr. Shocket is an awesome GI doctor. He takes the time to answer questions, is thorough in working to identify what's causing DI distress and was able to give me a tangible diagnosis (not just telling me I have IBS!). Would highly recommend him to anyone who needs a GI doctor.
