Review Summary
Dr. McHale's practice received around 52.4% positive feedback, with patients praising her professionalism, expertise, and care for complex pediatric orthopedic issues. However, about 47.6% of the feedback was negative, primarily citing long wait times, rude office staff, and poor scheduling management. Dr. McHale is valued for her technical skill and successful surgical outcomes, yet it needs stronger administrative processes.ScoreDoc Score

List of Kathleen A. Mchale's Reviews
We love Dr. Mchale. She was great with my 14 year old son. She is friendly and to the point. We liked her ability to listen and her efficiency. We highly recommend her.
We love Dr. McHale. We have seen her many times for my son's four wheeler accident. She is efficient at what she does and wants to make sure she does it correctly. We have been super satisfied with our visits with her.
Doctor Mchale is excellent! She has fixed 2 toes during the pandemic! she is extremely professional and caring and an excellent surgeon!
Extremely busy and highly professional practice. Dr. McHale fixed a complicated fracture across the growth plates. This involved an initial cast, surgery to place pins, and a final cast. Dr. McHale has been caring for thousands of metro area kids every year. Be prepared to wait during the office visits -- this practice has only one doctor, who is amazingly efficient and kind.
I saw Dr. McHale at the end of Oct. for ankle pain. She told me instead of having surgery, we could first try custom orthotics and she would email the person in Virginia who she has worked with and then she'd email me his information. It has been 6 weeks and I have not heard from her. I contacted her office 3 times and was told they would look into it and get back to me. I have had no phone call, no text, no email. I will not be calling them a 4th time. I will be looking for another doctor.
Trying to track down a pediatric orthopedist that would see my 12 month old and help her was so difficult, and yes, it was a bit of a challenge to get an appointment, but it was WELL worth it. Dr. McHale is professional, kind, and has so much experience. She diagnosed her right away and was great with follow up. She even called me back on a Sunday to make sure I understood the results of the x-Ray. Would highly recommend.
As a physician, I have worked with numerous pediatric orthopedic surgeons, and she is excellent. She has taken care of two of my children.
please seek another professional. As many people noted, the wait is ridiculous. That is a sign of a disorganized office. Prior to my daughter's painful surgery, I had addressed pain management for the first 36 hours. This fell on deaf ears obviously. I got an apology after, but that did no good for the pain that my child experienced. Granted, part of this falls on Inova Fairfax's shoulders. In addition, immediately following the surgery, instead of allowing my child's leg to swell as it needed to, they placed a tight-fitting cast. This resulted in emergency removal of the cast in the wee hours. As for the replacement casts, there was no cleaning of her leg or washcloths for me to even clean up my child's leg. I knew next time to bring my own equipment. Seek another professional.
I’ll admit that I was a bit apprehensive after reading these reviews, but my son broke his arm and we could see Dr. McHale 2 days earlier than other doctors. The office staff was friendly and kind and we didn’t wait more than 5 minutes on our first visit. On our second visit, we got called back before our actual appointment time! Dr. McHale was gentle with my 5 year old son and worked to make him feel comfortable during the whole broken arm/cast/cast removal experience.
Extremely disappointed in the professionalism of Dr. McHale's office - my son had an appointment with her in June, 2018, at which time she prescribed an MRI and made a follow-up appointment to review the MRI results. I took off work, took my son out of school, and battled rush-hour traffic for the follow-up appointment, only to discover that not only was she not in that office on that day, but that she was NEVER scheduled in the office on that day. The office said there was a "miscommunication" on their part, and would happily re-schedule me for a month from now! Meanwhile, my son can hardly walk. When I called the office to complain, the receptionist also asked me "not to use vulgar language" on the phone after I used the word "hell" (in the context of "what the hell is going on"). I hardly consider that vulgar, and certainly didn't say anything worse as I was very aware of my children in the car with me when I called. That comes across as very lazy to me - looking for some false excuse to get off the phone rather than actually deal with the mistake they made. I'd strongly suggest that anyone in need of orthopedic care look elsewhere. Read through the rest of the reviews and you will see that Dr. McHale is definitely someone to avoid.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
