List of Gregory Spana's Reviews
I've been a patient of Dr Spana for many years. He has always been extremely professional, thorough and compassionate. His Staff has been very friendly and kind. This is a VERY busy practice with multiple Doctors so there may be a slight wait in their waiting room but it's constantly in motion.
I was referred to Dr. Spana by a another doctor. It took me three weeks to finally get them to answer their phone and then they refused to schedule me because they didn’t have my referral in hand. I had the referring doctors secretary fax over the referral again and began trying to contact Dr. Spana’s office again. It has taken me two months of calling nearly daily, multiple voice message left, to finally get them to call me back to yet again tell me they don’t have my referral that’s been faxed over twice now. The receptionist was extremely rude over the phone and even made the comment “walk it over yourself if you’re so worried about it.” I will not be seeing this doctor for such a matter as I was going to him for as I now no longer trust the office as a whole.
Dr. Spana is a decent enough physician and a seemingly nice guy, but he is the victim of working within a practice that overbooks, does not listen to patients and almost never returns a phone call. I have had several incidences of calling the office more than once on issues, often having to call the practice administrator get to the staff to respond to my phone calls. Often, these calls relate to errors, or lack of action, by the staff as related to filing for insurance authorizations, orders for blood tests and the constant issue of having them reschedule visits without asking me whether or not I'm available on the dates and times they select. They choose dates where the Dr. Spana may be available, but never bother to verify that I am. Sadly, Kent County does not have decent alternatives to Urology Associates of Delaware so I have no choice but to continue seeing Dr. Spana.
He is arrogant and condescending. He refered to my 93 year old father and his patient as "this guy" while talking to his family. And when he became flustered he started to yell. No I would not recommend or trust him with my loved ones.
After being seen here for over a year, I received a letter from them saying I missed 3 appts. I never missed any appts. The Dr. spends all of about 5 minutes with you. Never gives straight answer always says “probably just...” Ended up with a stag horn stone that he said was “probably just part of the infection”. Terrible practice! Beware!
Dr. Spana does not bother to explain his diagnosis, When asked to explain he answers are short and uninformative. He acts as if you are not a doctor yourself you are not intelligent enough to understand. This is his ego.
This physician is a blatant belligerent in patient physician. He disregards patients family’s. Regards patients and “this guy” who are in end of life care. Do not go to a physician who has a ego problem the minute a patients family asks a question. He is awful. His bedside manner is awful with family. And due to Covid he is taking it upon himself to be judge and jury above family.
Not a very positive person. I always had to call in to get my prescriptions corrected. They were never written correctly and then denied.
Dr. Spana has been my urologist for nearly 10 years. He has been a valuable resource and uses cutting edge technology. I trust him as I continue fighting metastasized prostate cancer and I am still alive with hope on the horizon.
Dr. Spana is an affable and presumably compitent urologist however a recent interaction was far less than satisfactory. I called the office to order a refill of my sildenafil, 45 tablets, 20 milligrams. What was called into Walgreens was 6 tablets, of 100 milligrams at a cost of $279 (later reduced to $94 by my negotiating with the pharmacist). Via his nurse his response was to simply cut the 100mg tablets in quarters. Never mind that 100/4=25mg, not 20, but even if you could cut the pills that would yield 24 tablets, far less than the 45 that was supposed to have been called in. His total lake of ownership that he made a mistake in my opinion was arrogant and condescending to me as a patient.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
