Gerard D. Dariano's Online Review Report Card

Walked in, went straight for the computer to review MRI and about 5 minutes later finally looked at me to tell me he was referring me to a neurosurgeon. When I had some questions about MRI results he basically told me to shut up, that I wouldn't understand it anyway. Very dismissive when I asked about trying an epidural first. Truly obnoxious behavior. There is no way I would let this man ever touch me.

In 2015, I went to Dr. Dariano upon recommendation. I had lower back issues that a previous doctor addressed and had given me (unsuccessful) injections for. After reviewing my MRI disc and a brief discussion, it was determined I needed a spinal discectomy on my L4/L5 region. We scheduled the surgery at an out-patient surgical center in PB Gardens. When I arrived at the center, something did not feel right. However, I proceeded with checking in, prepping, and having the surgery because I had been sufferings such pain for so long and just wanted relief. (This was on a Friday afternoon). When I woke up after the surgery, the pain was unbearable. The nurses brought my sister to the back where I was & I told her about being in so much pain. At this time, it was nearing the end of the work day and many of the nurses were scurrying around saying to each other, "Have a nice weekend" and it was obvious everyone was trying to leave. The head nurse came over after I complained of the pain and she stated, "Well, you just came out of surgery". (I understand that yes, you will have pain after surgery, I have had other surgeries, but one should not have excruciating pain at this level when waking up from a surgery). I believe at that point the nurse then gave me some type of pain reliever. Not long after, I was told it was time to go & the nurses rushed me out, and loaded me into my sister's car. The whole ride home was awful. Dr. Dariano called the next day to check on me. I explained that my pain was still very, very bad. I do not remember all of that conversation, but remember advising him of this. During the 2nd evening home my back pain was so severe I could not lie in the bed. I had to be helped to move onto the hardwood floor to lay, to have some sort of relief. By morning, my pain was so severe I could not even move. An ambulatory service had to be called to come to bring me to the emergency room. Once there, I was in so much pain I was given Dilaudid and it only slightly took the edge off and only lasted for 10 minutes. It was determined I needed a 2nd surgery. When I asked Dr. Dariano why this happened, he replied, "Your disc may have reherniated when they moved you from the operating table after the 1st surgery". So, I had a 2nd surgery (same L4/L5 disc),but this time at JFK Medical Center. The staff at that hospital was beyond amazing. When I woke up from the surgery this time I felt normal, and it was obvious to me this was successful (at the moment). It was, for about (roughly) a year, then the pain began to return. (BTW...at the time I was a 45 y/o teacher). I was not lifting heavy things or doing strenuous activities that could compromise my back. I went back to Dr. Dariano, and he decided a spinal injection may help. It did (for a short while), but I had to go back again to have another months later. When I had the last spinal injection (in his office) he did the injection very low (near my tailbone). It was awful. Afterward, when I would sit (in theater chairs, cushioned chairs) it would be painful, as it would irritate my tailbone area. I didn't think this would ever go away...it took roughly a year & thankfully it did get better. At this point, my husband said, "That's it, we are going to Mayo clinic to see what can be done about this". After months, of appointments, traveling, consultations, and finally a very successful surgery there (where the Dr. said, "Because this is your 3rd surgery on this area, you most likely will not be 100% pain free") I am now in NO pain. I was recommended Dr. Dariano in the beginning of my ordeal by my sister (who has a client that used him). Recently, when I asked my sister about her client and how she is doing, my sister said, "She is still going to that Dr. for her issues". I just asked myself, why would you be going to the same doctor 7 years later if you are still having such pain? I'm sure Dr. Dariano has helped many people, but this is just my experience with him and want to share. I do not feel confident with his care for me and would not recommend him to my friends/family.

Sciatica down my left leg bothered me for months before I scheduled an appointment with Dr. D’Ariano. He explained it to me and the treatment. Pills are first and although probably temporary I found relief that night after 5 months of suffering. Thank you doctor D’Ariano. Much appreciated. An MRI is next and I feel comfortable knowing I’m in good hands. Thank you for helping me.

After 4 doctors failed to find out what was causing my back pain Dr. D'Ariano found a cyst in my spine removed and ended the pain.

Dr D’Ariano performed back surgery on me. Very professional and definitely took time to address the issues that came out of the procedure. Absolutely took time to listen and help with all the questions I had. Highly recommend for anyone that needs any orthopedic care
