List of Alan Stein's Reviews
I started seeing Dr. Stein back in the 90's when he was new to Hawaii. He was recommended by two other neurologists who were retiring. He brought me into the Epilepsy Center at the old St. Francis hospital in Kalihi, HI and was able to pinpoint exactly where my seizures were coming from and he paired two medications that brought everything under control. I started having seizures in 1979 and all the neurologists I saw were limited by technology and medication. I tried so many different meds and none of them were effective. I don't see him much anymore because my condition is under control. There is a little wait time at his office, but all busy doctor's offices have wait times, and for all he did to get my life back on track, I don't mind the wait. Dr. Stein was a God send.
Horrible bedside manner. Disrespectful, rude and inconsiderate. Not only was I misdiagnosed by him I traveled over 5000 miles to be seen at the Mayo Clinic for another opinion. They tried to call in a prescription but since they are out of state Hawaii state law wouldn't fill it. I called Dr Steins office to get it filled and he refused. I cannot believe he can practice medicine, worst experience of my life. Don't waste your time

Dr Stein is always busy and wait time is often like 15 minutes or longer. He is gruff overall of the patient neurologically though each time. More often than not he doesn't really care what the patient is saying.I don't recommend him. But if you like a gruff dr who thinks he is God he is the dr for you.
He Know's me. He his a vary good Doctor! He has been with me for a good number of years! I Thank him so much for that! His staff alway thinks i have normal inelegant but he knows
Alan came to me to put me as his patient. After a short period of time he aided me on getting the proper treatment and operation I needed to treat my severe seizure problem, one that gave me multiple grand-mal seizures weekly. After the operation, I now have about two a year. He was always thoughtful, friendly and helpfulhelpful, as was his staff. Without their help I don't know where I'd be today on my 37th birthday. He helped fix a problem I've had since I was about 5.
Dr Stein and his staff are more than excellent - they are the BEST!!
Rude dismissive and pompous. Treated the patient like a piece of furniture. Not surprised his lowest rating is for accuracy in diagnosis.
Since being his patient, he has a part of our family's lifestyle because whenever we go into his office, he always asks us how our day is going...we pickup from our last conversation that we last had...then after being comfortable, we get down to business about why I'm really there...
Dr. Stein and his staff are caring, professional and accurate. The best doctor in Hawaii has been my doctor for nearly ten years and I will always value his opinions.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
