I have osteoarthritis in my right knee. Dr. Harkess himself was respectful and caring. He told me I would require an eventual knee replacement. As a retired surgeon, I anticipated this diagnosis and advice. I knew my knee was unstable and requested a knee brace for the interim until I made a decision to go forward. He issued me the order and suggested I take it to the Hanger Clinic. The orthotist at Hanger took my measurements but could not issue me the brace as the documentation in Dr. Harkess' office notes was insufficient for medicare and insurance coverage. Hanger contacted Dr. Harkness' assistant multiple times as did I. I told Coastal that if a second office visit was necessary, I was willing to do that to obtain the required documentation. Neither Hanger nor I ever received a response. We were ghosted. If Coastal can't arrange a brace, certainly never have surgery there.

Dr. Harkess is a very caring and compassionate physician. For months I had difficulty walking, standing and sitting for any length of time and had to use a walker to get around at home and outside. The pain was at a 10 - 24/7. He recommended surgery and took the time to listen and answer all of my concerns and questions regarding the surgery. My family was very impressed with how well I responded to the surgery, recovery and physical therapy. I was able to walk, stand, sit and even ride a bike. I am very happy with my new hip and I strongly recommend Dr. Harkess if you need a hip replacement. I am thankful to him for giving me back a good quality of life.

Dr. Harkess listened to my needs and skillfully replaced my right knee. I no longer have osteoarthritis pain and a knee that lets me play golf, Pickleball, and do cardio workouts.

I tell everyone I know that needs a hip replacement to go to Dr. Harkess. I couldn’t believe how fast I recovered and surprised so many people on what I could do in the short time after the surgery. I had 2 weeks of home health and the therapist said she couldn’t help me anymore. Then went to therapy at Coastal Orthopedic and only had one therapy appointment. She said I didn’t need anymore that I was doing great.

I would highly recommend Dr. Harkess and his staff. I had a total knee replacement Nov. 22, 2021. Everything went very smoothly, thanks to the efficient and caring staff, and Dr. Harkess’s incredible surgical ability. It’s been three months, and I’m playing golf and pickleball with no knee pain. I also walk several miles per day and often ride my bike. I also recommend the physical therapy staff! They did an excellent job of getting my knee and leg in shape. I can’t speak highly enough of the surgery and the care I received! I never dreamed of this successful outcome, after having lived a year limping and in pain.

I had a total knee replacement and no one can believe how well I’m doing 3 months later. I can walk and ride my back so I’ve lost 15 pound. I have full range of motion. I can kneel down to work on something. I had several questions arise but their office answered them all in a timely manner. Couldn’t be happier with my care or with my new knee at age 70.

Had a great knee replacement experience with Dr Harkess. Was walking first day after surgery with almost no pain at all. Within one week was back to my normal routine with no complications!
