My Name is Luis Dorta Jr and my story may change the way you perceive the kindred Health care system in a positive and inspirational way. My father was driving cross country and was omitted into Del Sol medical center on January. 13, 2022 in EL Paso, Texas due to covid 19. He was on the verge of death for the first month and we thought he would never make it out. With the team’s hard work and dedication, he was able to be transferred to Kindred EL Paso with a tracheotomy and ventilator on March. 1 2022. Once he was stable enough to be transported back home to Miami still on the ventilator, kindred Miami took him in with open arms on April 16, 2022, where he Is still receiving treatment till this day. Kindred Miami has been the most heartwarming and attentive facility I have ever experienced. They have catered to my father’s needs, removed him from the tracheostomy after 2 weeks, and is now on the road to recovery. This is has been a long and stressful road for us and The kindred Team has been extremely supportive this difficult process.Thank you, Kindred MiamiWe appreciate your passion and dedication.

My father has been at this facility for the last few weeks and is making great strides. Thankful to have found this place, where we feel comfortable with the level of care he is receiving. The facility is clean and well staffed. Upon touring the hospital I got to meet various different people from all of the departments. I am thankful to everyone at Kindred for taking care of my father.

Where to begin. I could not image a worst place to take someone I love to recover from a tragic medical event. In short, my father was unresponsive. I spent everyday with him from 8-9am until 6-7pm, so I have first hand knowledge of the issues at this facility. The nurses and the respiratory technicians would consistently leave medical waist on my father as detailed in the attached picture. Everyday when I arrived in the morning, I would have to pick up the garbage off my father. I would even call the case manager to come and see all the waist they would leave on my father but nothing changed. My father was on a respirator and needed to be frequently suctioned but getting a respiratory technician to suction him when he was choking was almost impossible. I would frequently arrive in the mornings to find mucus coming out of my father's mouth and neck meaning no one suctioned him at night. And the doctors were never around. And when you did see the doctors, you had to stand between them and the door in order to get any questions answered. I started keeping a log of how many times, and for how long, a doctor would visit my father. There was one doctor that averaged 47 seconds with my father. The longest he ever examined my father was 1 minute and 21 seconds. When I tell you the doctors are only there to pick up a check, I'm not exaggerating. The monitors that were supposed to track my father's health would consistently be disconnected and when i would tell the nurse they would tell me the connection is fine.  My father's blood oxygen would drop below 90, once it dropped to 52 and with the alarms going off, no one would respond.  I would have to go to the central nurse station to get assistance. I can go on and on but let me conclude with this. My father kept getting sicker and sicker at Kindred to the point were I told Kindred to transfer him back to a real hospital. At the real hospital my father was diagnoses with pneumonia, urine infection, sever dehydration leading to kidney failure, and a blood cult from his IV that traveled to his lungs. In short, had my father stayed at Kindred, he would be dead today. And finally, when my father was transferred to the real hospital, Kindred sent him with the medical records for another Kinder patient.  Yes, this really happened but I was not surprised at all with their incompetence. Luckily I was there at the real hospital to catch this potentially fatal mistake. Today my father is at another Long Term Acute Hospital and the experience here is night and day from that of Kindred.  The level of care and attention is levels above that at Kindred. Always remember, you are in charge of your loved ones care.  If you are not happy with the level of care they are receiving, you can demand that they be moved to another hospital. I have filed several complaints against Kindred including a complaint with the Agency for Health Care Administration and a HIPAA complaint with the Department of Health and Human Services. This is a very short summation of my experience at Kindred. Truly horrible experience.

This facility is absolutely awful. The nurses are extremely rude and unaware of the patients status. They provide false promises in order to get your family member into the facility. It is impossible to speak with anyone in regards to the patients plan of care. My father was there for a traumatic brain injury and they continuously gave him Xanax so help would sleep all day even after we told them not to give him the Xanax. Multiple times we visiting my father in was full of urine and unattended to. The CNA's and Nurses are all in a bitter mood. Administration can care less. STAY AWAY. This place is a nightmare.

This place sounded amazing during the tour. We were promised excellent care and communication was something they pride themselves on. Too bad that I was emotionally drained and didn’t see the sales tactic while touring. Nothing we were promised during the tour has happened. We were told that he would be receiving aggressive rehab therapy which has never happened. We were told they don’t sedate patients like nursing homes yet my father was sedated having a TBI because he was irate. When we asked the nurse she said she doesn’t have the time to be coming in and checking on him all the time. Whether that is true or not you do not answer a family member that way. Super unprofessional place, no nurse ever knows anything about my father. There are times I go and no one even glances in the room for 2 hrs. They will promise the world to get the money and once there it’s survival of the fittest. Terrible experience
