Mark Shachner's Online Review Report Card

If I could give more than 5 stars I would certainly do so! I had the LINX procedure to repair a large hiatal hernia on December 28, 2022. Before the procedure, I read and watched every video I could to see what level of misery I could expect :). Dr Shachner exceeded my highest expectations. He has incredible bedside manner and explains every step thoroughly. As a surgeon, he’s an artist pure and simple. I expected to feel some level of pain and misery for at least a few days, but it never happened. Aside from my shoulders being a little sore from excess air that was in my abdomen, I literally felt NO pain. As soon as I got home from the surgery (same day) I was watching football and eating with NO issues. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I initially thought it was just the anesthesia and the next day I would start feeling some level of pain, but the next day came and went and I felt fantastic. I was told after a few weeks I would hit a “rough spot” when the scar tissue started forming around the LINX and I may have to go back to a soft food diet for a short time. That never happened:). It is April 7 and the only time I get any disphagia (difficulty swallowing) is when I try to inhale my food like a 20 year old. That passes in about 30 seconds and is no big deal. I know not every outcome is identical and I’m a best case scenario, but if it can happen for me it can happen for anyone. I’m still baffled at how it’s possible for a Doctor to perform ANY surgery and not cause ANY pain. Seems impossible yet here I am. Dr Shachner is the Michael Jordan/Tom Brady of Surgeons. His impact on my life cannot be measured.

Well I have been with this doctor for 1 1/2 years. His front office staff are amazing. The surgical coordinator was extremely professional. Now to the good stuff. Dr Shactner and his PA are off the chart. He did my lynx for acid reflux. a little pain during recovery in the hospital. But the following day I was up doing my usual stuff. Dr Shactner has one of the best attitude I have ever met. He says it the way it is. If you ask him a question and didn’t know the answer He will tell you he has no clue. He won’t beat around the bush He is straight to the point I highly recommend him if you have acid reflux issue He will even joke with you He has a great sense of humor and personality And in times like this That go a long way with me

Amazing! The best surgeon in Florida. Amazing staff, you don't have to worry about anything as long as you are under his care.

Dr. Shachner is fantastic. Megan is the best! Explains without talking down to you. She understands any way you try to explain your issues and answers every question you may have. I moved but still make the drive knowing I'll get this top notch service. Thank you to the entire office staff!

Dr. S & Megan are life savers! They not only repaired my damage, the follow up was and still is fantastic. Would highly recommend!

I am very disappointed in Doctor Shachner's practice, for multiple reasons which I want to share in the hope that fellow patients can be educated and warned. 1) The doctor accepted my insurance, but his surgical PA assistant did NOT. So I see the doctor before my surgery and all is fine. Once asleep under anesthesia, the assistant comes in and works with Dr. Shachner. Now post-op, I get multiple bills from the assistant, amounting to hundreds of dollars. I think this is unfair and very sneaky. They office had 3 months in which to notify me that the doctors assistant does not accept the insurance that the doctor does. 2) I had horrible complications of abdominal pain and cramping for 6 months after Laparoscopic Fundoplasty. The doctor was not available to see me, so I had to see the PA, who I had three different visits with. She could not help me with the pain, and I asked to see Dr. Shachner, but was told he is too busy, you have to wait 3 months to see him. I did wait, but when I finally arrived to see him, I was told that "you are no longer covered as a post-op patient because you waited more than 3 months to see him." BUT I had been asking to see him the entire time! Again, very tricky and sneaky behavior. 3) I still have abdominal pain and cramping, actually much worse than anything I ever experienced pre-operatively. So after all the pain and suffering and extra expenses, I am worse off than before the operation. I urge all patients to be cautious and to get in writing that they expect the doctor AND whoever he gets to assist him, ALL accept your insurance.

Very good doctor, explains everything well, picked up the phone himself when I called the second night post-op. I would have given 5 stars except for one detail: The Hospital told me I needed to arrive 5 hours BEFORE the operation. I questioned this, and was told by more than one person that it was "what Dr Shachner wants". I did as told, and was quickly ushered through the admission process and into a bed in the pre-op area. Then I had to stay in bed for 5 hours, with EKG, IV, blood pressure cuff, etc....listening to all the conversations around me. This was terrible, uncomfortable, and emotionally disturbing. I was cold, but the plastic blanket they used was sticky and sweaty....just awful. I don't understand it. I was there....I could have sat in a reclining chair in my own comfortable clothing, free to use the bathroom or just get up and stretch. In no way is this anything against the doctor, but he IS the "captain of the ship". I think 1-2 hour wait is totally acceptable....5 hours was grueling, especially with the stress and anxiety just before an operation.
