South County Mental Health Center's Online Review Report Card

I was held here from August 9-11, 2025, after being transferred from St. Mary's Hospital for suicidal depression. What I experienced at South County Mental Health Center was not care--it was neglect and psychological abuse. The facility was filthy and freezing, with bug infestations and no access to basic hygiene. I was denied a toothbrush, soap, clean clothes, and any form of therapy or counseling. Staff treated patients like prisoners, mocked complaints, and retaliated when I spoke up. I overheard staff joking about patients, and the psychiatrist told me, "It ends whenever I say it ends." Meals were expired, I suffered bug bites, and was discharged in a van with no air conditioning--soaked in sweat after an hour-long ride. This place worsened my mental health and left me traumatized. I've filed formal complaints with multiple state agencies and I urge others to speak out. If you or someone you love is in crisis, do not let them be sent here. This facility needs to be investigated and held accountable. I have reported them and about to go with legal matters. this place needs to close down and those ppl need to be locked up especially the doctor in charge.

my sister has been here twice, recently discharged. the staff are neglectful and even when asked multiple times to give her the clothes and hygiene products we brought for her, they wouldn’t. she has gone weeks without showering, in the same clothes. when i was visiting another visitor told the man in charge to give a patient things necessities they were brought. he said ‘oh remind me later’ first of all- do it now. second of all- why do you need a reminder to do your job? they are always late, seeming to be half asleep. they heavily sedate all their patients, they only want to make it easier for them to handle, rather than actually spending time trying to learn and understand how to treat their condition. my sister has been inpatient here multiple times and each time the staff has been neglectful. it is a mixed group, adults from 18-60+ both genders. my sister stated she was physically assaulted multiple times by other patients. she stated a man came up behind her, grabbed her head and squeezed it. then an old women spat in her face. she pointed both of them out when we visited. my sister has verbal tics, and they can be quite ‘annoying’ especially to people who already have anger issues. i was so scared something would happen to her because the people around her seemed so scary. we went in one time when we were visiting and there was a large man screaming at one of the staff, another was brought out on a stretcher in an ambulance (not sure why) and we saw another large man in handcuffs being brought in too. this is not a good place for vulnerable special needs mentally ill adults. the staff must do better.

If you want to get misdiagnosed for 15 years of your life - be put on every medication in the book - get put on meds that make you fat and piss in your bed every night for 8 years this might be the place for you. Read the other reviews and be warned. The staff and this place is trash and anyone they ever had that was good working for them has been alienated from the practice through time. I’ve been a patient since 1997 and have seen this place go through a lot of changes - bad ones. Go somewhere else please.

The worst hospital I've ever experienced. The staff aren't nice, very rude, treat the patients wrong and violate people's basic human rights like free speech.

I recommend this place for outpatient services the staff is kind the providers cares and the supervisor is very on point with the clinic. Get help there!

A very important service that doesn't seem to get as much love as it deserves. I appreciate the staff including Mrs Candy who's always there and going the extra mile to ensure that the family members that I'm looking after are properly taken care of. For the years that I've been going here things haven't changed much I wish it got more government support.

Great services in outpatient professional manager, Lisa Worthy and Dr. Rios always on point

I came to South County Mental Health Center for the first time yesterday to an appointment with my loved one who use to see Dr. Sipe who was great when he was practicing there now he see Dr. Rodriguez who’s wonderful . When we arrived at the front desk to check in and pay the copay the lady was extremely nice she told us to go check in the back in the clinic which was the worse mistake the guy was on a call so we checked in with the older lady with the blonde hair she didn’t ask us who we was there to see didn’t ask for a name she looked at us as if we were contagious and said just have a seat very rudely! we sat there for over 30 minutes waiting to be seen I was getting ready to walk out and report this place to the state. Then I believe it was the supervisor (maybe) very soft spoken young lady came in the waiting area awhile later and asked everyone that was sitting in the waiting room did we check in a the window and received a consent form and a questionnaire to be filled out and kindly asked us was we okay and who we was there to see no one mentioned anything about forms at the appointment window she explained what the forms was about then she gave the us the forms and let us know that certain providers were running a little behind and gave us an option to see a provider who was available right away if we had something to do or been waiting there a long period of time. I’m not sure where the hell she get her staff from but she needs to hire more people that matches her energy! The staff there is rude as hell but she’s very professional and need to teach her staff professionalism other than that this place provides great services

This is a horrible place... they let out people who really need help ... they tell the patients what family members say even when they say they won't say anything... which further alienates the family.. I witnessed someone who was released today damage someone's car with his hand.. he clearly should not have been release. don't trust the doctors they will lie to you. they won't open the door or talk to you about concerns

Very effective treatment. Dr. Lisa Worthy in particular is unparalleled. Very professional
