I want a physician that is intelligent. Dr. M impresses me with ability to be well conversant with my heart affecting urology, vascular etc problems. Since COVID, there have been front office and back office turnover problems in all of my doctors' offices all over the Southeast US, including Jacksonville, Birmingham and even Freeport, FL. None of that is doc's fault. I was scheduled recently for surgery in Jax and the hospital had not received Dr. Melvin's OK due to the office mgr quiting at my Jax surgeon's office. On a holiday weekend, I emailed Dr M thru the portal. The required 16 pages were faxed to Jax & me with follow-up phone calls well in time to have the surgery on Tues AM following a Monday holiday. This was accomplished with Dr Melvin's signature by the back-office. Recently his nurse tracked down answers abt meds quickly and efficiently using e-mail alone. I was suffering and they helped me. As the newbies in the scheduling crew gain experience, this review will turn 5*.

Patient for 2 years. He cancelled annual appointment in July (he was on vacation) went to August appointment office staff would not let me in. Said I need a referral physician. I've been in this office 7 times at least. Wouldn't take my Humana HMO. Condescending arrogant front office staff. Not really a cardiologist; just a wannabe. Mayes is the cardiologist in this office. He hasn't given me an EKG in 18 months after a quintuple bypass. He will not listen to quality of life needs and suggestions. Do not put yourself in this man's or the front office staff's hands. They do not understand their Hippocratic oath responsibilities. Their only concern is their revenue not the welfare of the patient.
