Hand Institute received 91.5% positive feedback, with patients praising the professionalism, knowledge, and friendly staff. However, 8.5% of the feedback was negative, primarily citing long wait times, disorganized office, and poor patient communication. Wait time is atrocious! Walked out after 1 1/2 hours. Patients were standing in the hallway because the 15 or so chairs they had in the waiting room were occupied. Looking for another hand specialist.
Waited nearly 2hrs to be seen. The staff doesn’t speak much English. They were openly insulting an English speaking patient in Spanish, for the waiting room to hear. They were very rude to patients. After finally going in, the doctor unprofessionally spoke ill of his professional colleagues in the field, referred to a comment my OT made as stupid, and used profanity repeatedly. The only positive things he said were related to using workers comp, because he could do more with it. I’m going to find another opinion. I can’t imagine having to work with this group if I don’t have to.
Excellent Hospital and office staff. Surgery went well and healing well however very painful. "Poor pain management and contact response". I'm sure every patient is different but I've had acute pain and it was almost impossible to get a call back. It's been 3 weeks and still the pain level is 6 to 7.
I waited to see Dr. Balaguer for 2 hours, the x-ray technician took an incomplete X-ray so after I explained what was going on to the nurse practitioner, they retook the X-ray. The nurse practitioner was very kind and communicated well. Dr. Balaguer walked in the room, barely addressed me, the patient. Squeezed my finger, asked if it hurt and said” there’s still time to pin it.” Then proceeded to walk out of the room. I went for a second opinion because the Dr. Never even evaluated my range of motion in my finger. Completely different experience with a well known hand surgeon in the miami area. He evaluated my finger, examined the x ray and discussed treatment options with a clear, concise treatment plan. So glad I went for a second opinion and found a competent, humble hand surgeon!!
This place is awful. The employees are rude and disgruntled. No one speaks English. They talked about patients, quite loudly, to one another while the waiting room listened. I waited over an hour just to get called into an exam room. The doctor spoke ill of professional colleagues and curses a lot. In total he spent about 30seconds with me.
I was referred to Dr. Balaguer from a south miami walk in clinic, I waited 2 hours and the x ray tech took the wrong X-ray so they had to redo the X-ray. No shield placed on my lap either times? The Nurse practitioner was very nice, but his opinion differed from the Dr. The Dr. Came in, squeezed my finger, asked if I had pain, and said " we can pin it" and walked out of the room. I am not feeling very confident right now about that surgeon operating on my hand. I went for a second opinion... totally different experience!! Seen in 30 minutes, The Dr. Sat with me explained mechanism of injury. We discussed options. He splinted me in his office and said "DO NOT remove this splint.. " and we made an appointment for a 2 week follow up since so much healing had all ready occurred. I think Dr. Balaguer needs to decide if he wants to be a business man or a surgeon because his office has very poor communication skills.
Took x-rays without the lead sheid over your chest even when I ask for it. The person who took the x-ray told me they had to operate on my hand. Ask if I could meet Dr Balaguer .No can do.My gut feeling was to go to another Dr.I did the right choice. My hand did not need surgery. So glad I went to another Dr
I came to this Dr for my one time Second Opinion switch because I was not happy with my other Dr. From the moment I met Dr. Balaguer he was very easy to understand and I quickly learn about my diagnosis and what needed to happen. My surgery went amazing and my recovery even better. I dont even have a scar. Above all- No pain!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
