List of Shawn Hughes's Reviews
I recently moved here from another state and have previously been in pain management for over six years, with a bunch of different health issues with chronic pain. My very first visit I brought all my CDs, previous notes, reports and scans from my old pain management doctor. He did not care. All he cared about is that I was on an anxiety medicine( super low dose once a day) and sleep medicine. I have been functioning on these medicines with the zero issues for the past 6+ years. He was the most uncompassionate, rude and disregarding doctor I think I’ve ever seen in my life. So basically I had to wean myself off my pain medicine at a quick rate, and now instead of 5 or 6 manageable pain days a week, I’m lucky if I have one or 2 at most. He also told me that I was on two benzodiazepines, which was not true. My sleep meds are not benzos. Don’t waste your time if you are a legitimate pain patient seeking medication management. Downright rude and uncaring
First time going to a pain mgmt ctr.Went there on time told i need to reschedule because i did not bring paperwork: never got any. Next visit Told him taking kratom to deal with chronic pain but hurting my liver.Said to buy tylenol for my chronic pain. As if i did not try that. Ive been forced to cancel $1000+ a night bus tour due to pain .No real help on my own to try and self medicate. SO I CAN WORK..
I felt abandoned by Dr. Hughes in my time of need, when I was explaining my symptoms to Dr. Hughes it felt like he was checked out mentally like he wasn’t actually listening to me, or just didn’t care about my pain. Our communication felt rushed and I left with more questions than answers.
Very professional for both visits and subsequent follow-up call. Dr Hughes took the time to listen to the concerns, and scheduled a procedure to be done. I called with a follow-up and Ms Amy was very professional and helpful.
I am very disappointed in the Lack of care I received by Dr. Hughes. He was very unprofessional and rude. He has know desire or time to listen to his patients concerns or what is going on with them.He had his nurse lie to myself and my husband who was present in the room with me. He told my husband and I when he first came in the room that he was expecting a call from the insurance company and would have to step out to take it, how unprofessional his that, then about 20 minutes or so later, his nurse knocks on the door saying, Dr. Hughes you have a phone call, really!!!! Like where is your morals, he was rude and dishonest, he had know call, it was his out!!! So please before you consider this doctor, ask yourself about if you can trust someone to care for you, who is dishonest, rude, and totally unprofessional!!!!
Dr. Hughes staff is wonderful, however his demeanor is lacking in bedside manner and genuine care for his patients. My first visit with him recently he was brash and seemed to be in a hurry. I understand everyone has a bad day so I brushed it off. I was scheduled for my first injections and contacted the clinic about helping ease anxiety on the day of the injections as many other pain management professionals do to help make the experience for their patient as less stressful as possible... I attempted two times to get Dr. Hughes to understand and assist with the anxiety and he refused and is clearly becoming annoyed. As a medical professional myself, there is absolutely no reason at all that he cannot take his patient's experience into consideration when they are fearful about needles being placed into their joints where they already have pain. I do not recommend him to anyone who has a recent history of Cancer treatments (myself) along with anxiety/PTSD. I should have listened to all the other negative reviews prior to allowing my body to be treated by someone with zero bedside manner for his patients.
Dr. Hughes seemed to have no concern for the pain I was in with my first visit with him. After waiting a few weeks to get an appointment I was told by Dr. Hughes at my appointment that he would need to review my medical records and to come back for a followup in 2 months. Seems like his office would have already ordered my medical records before my appointment. He made no suggestions to help with the pain nor did he do anything to help with my pain. Since he did nothing to help manage my pain I was confused as to why I would even need to return to him in 2 months. After reviewing my medical records he called me a week later to tell me he was referring me to neurosurgery. After waiting a month for an appointment with neurosurgery, I found out 3 days before my appointment with the neurosurgeon that Dr. Hughes never put in the referral authorization for my insurance. So now I have been 2 months with no pain management. And no appointments with anyone to help manage my pain except Dr. Hughes 2 month follow up in February which I will be cancelling. Dr. Hughes has certainly neglected my care. I would never recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Hughes is excellent at performing spinal and facet joint injections. Being able to pinpoint exactly where the injections need to go to get the best results is hard to find in a Pain Management Physician, but Dr. Hughes excels in it. Also, I am thankful that he referred me to an excellent physician that has worked with me using medical marijuana to help ease chronic pain.
Dr. Hughes doesn't seem to care about my quality of life. I've had chronic back pain for over 26 years, because of my job injuries . I have never been completely out of pain, but can tolerate it through medication. I don't know how to get this across. It will be the death of me.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
