Anthony Ackerman's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Ackerman was fantastic. He spent so much time with me and was so thorough. He brought up things that other doctors should have but didn't. He was smart and funny and I was very happy to have found him in the big pool of neurologists in Gainesville. For me, the office ran swiftly and efficiently and the staff was great. Definitely five stars for Dr. Ackerman.

Very thorough initial exam and follow up treatment. Finally, really good neurologist after some years.

I confirmed my appointment, did an early check on Friday. Sunday I woke up with a fever, chills, aching all over. I called Monday morning to cancel because I was still very ill. I was told I would be a “cancellation, no show” or have a phone appointment with him, which I feel to sick to do. I have never cancelled an appointment with him or any SIMED Dr but I won’t be back to see him or any other SIMED Dr. Again!

I have never been more disappointed! I was referred from my PCP for migraines with a concerning MRI. With that being said, I have always had migraines and have troubleshooted many different options for management (some working and some not). However, my main goal for this visit was to review my immediate family history (my mother who has MS) and to establish care. Dr. Ackerman spent the majority of our visit basically giving me a TED talk about how MS is misdiagnosed and how my concerns were irrelevant. Yes, MS is misdiagnosed often. However, THAT'S NOT WHY I'M HERE. He then went on to address how common migraines are and to prescribe me medication. Now, I am holding my five month old son and he proceeds to ask if I'm breastfeeding, when I plan on quitting, and why I won't just give him a bottle. He proceeds to say he is not sure if these medications will "work" with breastfeeding and then googles to find out. After all this, I decided to just let him finish his TED talk so that I could be on my way to never return. Upon leaving, he gives me a printed essay from Health.com from 2012 titled "Stop that Splitting Headache" that proceeds to say "drink more water, do breathing exercises, yoga, and take the medication your doctor gives" and "48% of women have migraines". GREAT, I hadn't thought of those things. This all could've been prevented if Dr. Ackerman would've just LISTENED and kept his opinions to himself. As patients, we just want to be heard. It's hard enough to a) ask for help and b) take a chance on a new doctor. I will never be returning here. I guess I'll spend my time consulting Health.com and doing yoga without the copay.

Very professional and detail oriented. As a sufferer of OCD i appreciate that. Awesome all around.

I had a new patient appointment scheduled with Dr. Ackerman, who was recommended by my current neurologist, who is moving. I called the day prior at 3:45 to reschedule my 10:15 appointment because it was becoming apparent that I was getting worse and showing symptoms of strep throat. The office staff were rude about the cancellation policy, which I knew nothing about because I’m a NEW patient. Even after asking the doctor, they still wanted me to come in sick. They said if I didn’t make the appointment, he would not see me again. Isn’t this a little extreme, I mean, people do get sick. So Simed really doesn’t care about the health of their other patients or employees? The worst part is, we’re in the middle of a Coronavirus outbreak that has made it to the US. The World Health Organization and CDC are urging people to stay home when sick. But Simed threatens not to see patients again if they don’t show up, when the sick patient is trying to be courteous and reschedule. Ridiculous!

My experience with Dr. Ackerman (my first visit) was very helpful and informative. I particularly liked that he was up front about my upcoming numerous tests and said he would not sugarcoat anything. I've had physicians in the past hide things from me, so this was a welcome change. His bedside manner is wonderful and he's very thorough. Being a former scientist comes with a curious mind. He seems dedicated to locating the issue and treating accordingly.

I'd read the comments before going, and had hoped they were just trolls from a disgruntled customer. Nope. Everyone was spot on. I have 5 ruptured disc and just a ton of arthritic problems, and out of the gate he's selling sleep apnea. He wouldn't really listen. I tried to tell him that my problem was being able to fall asleep because I'm always in pain, but he shushed me, and told me he'd been doing this for 20 years, and before then he was a scientist...I'm going back to my other Doctor, I don't care if I have to pay out of pocket.
