Larkin Community Hospital Behavioral Health Services's Online Review Report Card

As a family member of a patient at Larkin Community Hospital, I am honestly outraged by what we experienced.<br><br>The communication was absolutely nonexistent. No one had clear answers. Every single question was met with confusion, attitude, or “I don’t know.” We were constantly redirected from one person to another, repeating ourselves over and over while getting completely inconsistent information. It felt chaotic and disorganized, like no one was actually in charge.<br><br>What made it worse was the lack of professionalism. Staff members seemed disengaged and distracted, frequently on their cellphones while patients and families were sitting there worried and waiting. There was no sense of urgency, no empathy, and no reassurance during an already stressful time.<br><br>As a family trying to advocate for a loved one, we felt dismissed and ignored. Instead of compassion, we were treated like we were a burden for asking basic questions about someone’s health. It genuinely felt like patient care was not the priority.<br><br>Hospitals are supposed to provide clarity, professionalism, and compassion. Unfortunately, our experience reflected the complete opposite. I would not recommend this facility to anyone who expects attentive care, clear communication, or respect for patients and their families. Serious improvements are needed in accountability, communication, and overall standards of care.

I was admitted here last year and I just want to say this is one of the worst mental hospitals i have been to. As a patient they misdiagnose you to rip off your insurance, the doctors are never there, you ask for help and the staff balatanly ignore you (I couldn't even get a towel when I asked for one) there's miscommunication issues, the cleaning staff also stole my laundry, and to make matters worse i couldn't sleep one night and they gave me an injection ?? What ever happened to offering sleep remedies such as magnesium or melatonin or tea for crying out loud !? I mean it's a disgrace what they do to people here who are sick and suffering.

They don’t pick up their phone calls, no matter how many times you call or how many voice messages you leave; there is this black woman there who has an accent and who is very rude. She has hung up in my face mid conversation, knowing that I needed to urgently speak to somebody there in regards of someone. She should not be working there at all if you are rude and or don’t like your job, you should not be working there

I was Baker Acted here in 2022, my experience was actually terrible the only good thing about this place was one nurse that I wish I remembered her name because she was the only person that checked on me and stood up for me against other staff members.<br><br>The doctor at the time, I hope he is no longer there was rude and imposed his religious beliefs on me. I was on birth control at the time and he did not allow me access to it due to his beliefs that I should not be on it because I was not a married woman. He said that he was Jewish & that it was not right for me to be on it at all. The female nurse stood up for me as he stated this in front of many other staff members that remained silent. I get severe cramps and my birth control helps with my bleeding and menstrual cramps. The nurse tried to insist that he allow me to have and he denied it so during my stay I was unable to take it.<br>During my intake when I arrived to Larkin, a male nurse that was doing the intake made several comments about my personal appearance which made me uncomfortable and how he thought I was “too pretty” to be depressed. I was employed, graduated University 2 years prior to being baker acted with a psychology degree & he laughed at me and told me “why didn’t you just read your psychology notes?” … this place needs better staffing that actually knows how to empathize with patients & be better trained because what gives anyone the right mind to tell a person who tried to commit suicide these types of things?

This facility was very beneficial for my situation, and I am grateful To have been admitted here. I definitely recommend this facility to anyone in crisis. The only complaint I have is the food was not the best. I would also like to acknowledge the nurse Chris, Monique and Lisa for their professionalism and compassion.

If you love your family member, don't bring them here! My son is there right now, it's frustrating to watch from the time you get to the front desk until someone brings you up. The nurses do their shift change during visiting hours, so if you get there 20 minutes before the end of the hour, you won't be able to get in because they're busy with their shift change. If you call to check on your family member, they don't answer the phone. In 2 hours I've left 7 unanswered messages. They say they're a detox center and when I get through on the phone, they don't have a solution for marijuana or cocaine. I don't trust their labs and no matter how much help you need to find out about your family member, you're not going to get it. We need better places to help those in need, better supervisors to see what's really going on.

Avoid this place at all cost the staff is very unprofessional,uncaring,and will twist and miss lead you especially when you question the how or why coming is being done to your loved one and by the way I had signed paper saying I had permission to talk to the doctor and the doctor was to tell me not only did my girl miss treated but me as a family member over 300 miles away have been treated like I’m a idiot well I’m not but I am very tenacious when it comes to my family and being able to at the very least talk to her with out her having to get up out of her hospital bed and walk down the hallway to a day room besides she admitted herself to another facility another facility just dropped her off here but they treated her like she’s just some lowlife scum and she’s not she’s my my girl you know I’m going out to get this right somebody messed up. They kept their baker actually told me she acted. She was not we could’ve took her home. I could’ve got it back up there where we lived with our doctors locals and not 300 miles away from me and the rest of the people that know her they could help her know they keep them here and come to find out they didn’t bake after not till after I started snooping until they got upset and so what they do they talk to doctor in the Baker after her on Tuesday so now she’s here till Friday again this is crazy. She’s already been detox before I know what this is. I’ve been three times with her and they act like I’m a fool.

Place called me at 5 in the morning and I have never even heard of them.

My wife has consistently struggled with alcoholism for 30 years, Michele and the staff were able to help assess her and direct her to a continuum of care that has helped her to recognize and address many of the underlying issues and challenges of this disease. Thank you for all your help.

I only have great things to say about Larkin. Michelle is the most wonderful human being I have met in a long time with the most common sense also. She truly cares about people. I am in awe at how she handles everything with such ease. Thanks to Michelle, my veteran son is getting the much needed help he deserves. She has guided us through the whole Marchman Act process. My son is now receiving the CORRECT help for his condition. I am so grateful that Michelle has helped save my son's life. The staff at Larkin were all very professional and compassionate. They were very well organized and the facility was very clean.
