I went to Dr. Merchea after receiving my first medical opinion for a procedure to remove a mass from my colon. I was a patient of Douglas Anderson MD Cancer Center. I completed my medical assessment. The colon rectum surgeon informed me I needed to lose 40 lb before the surgery and referred me to baptist hospital to get a gastric sleeve surgery which would have took about 6 months to complete then he would perform the colonoscopy surgery to remove the mass. I went to mail clinic for a second opinion and met with Dr. Merchea. He was very kind and understanding he made sure that I was knowledgeable about the procedure and everything that was going to take place to prepare me for surgery. After the first visit my surgery was scheduled 7 days and my mass was removed from by Dr. merchea, at Mayo hospital. He is an outstanding surgeon and I'm grateful for the treatment and care that I received from Mayo hospital Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Dr. Merchea saved my life after I experienced a severe bowel perforation when I was 28 years old. I truly believe I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for him.

If you are interested in a self-absorbed, arrogant guy, he's your man! May be a good surgeon, but he couldn't be bothered to review the history of my case. Due to recent back surgery (4 weeks), I was unable to kneel and bend for the exam in the way he wanted (per my back surgeon's order). He was so agitated that he couldn't wait to get me out of there. Never got to show him information collected about my condition (pictures of actual problem), so I'll get to start over with a new surgeon. Probably the least professional interaction I've ever had with a medical professional.

I travelled from Tampa to see Dr. Merchea. I had a tumor growing from my colon to my bladder. He took it all out with a robot! I'm now 2 years out and still cancer free. He deserves a medal.
