List of Thomas Barnard's Reviews
Dr Barnard saved my vision. I cannot thank him enough! The first week of January I suffered a pretty horrific eye injury playing Dek Hockey. I was struck directly in my left eye by a hard plastic ball traveling at 30-40mph. I was immediately blind in my left eye as it filled with blood. I went to the ER at ORMC it was determined by CT scan that I had a 5mm tear on my eyeball on the back side. The ophthalmologist on call came in and repaired my torn eye. He referred me to a retina specialist and I found Dr Barnard. He saw me right away and recommended surgery to clean the blood from inside my eye as the concern was that my retina may have been detached and there was no way to tell since the eye was filled with blood. Dr Barnard cleaned the blood and determined my retina was not detached but needed a little laser treatment to prevent a detachment. I visited him yesterday and my Vision is 20/25 in an eye that I was blind in when I first saw him. He’s truly a miracle worker.
Dr. Thomas Barnard’s persistence, patience, and professional skill, particularly at surgery, are continuing to make substantial progress with my left eye’s retinal issues (severe internal retinal swelling caused by clotting in a branch retinal blood vessel that began several years ago). I had almost given up hope that I would ever regain depth perception. Just before Dr. Barnard’s critical surgery (vitrectomy with an EpiRetinal Membrane peel), Eylea gave no improvement. After Dr. Barnard’s surgery and several more injections, Eylea has regained traction. Depth perception has noticeably improved. Although I still can’t read through my left eye, that may now be an achievable goal, thanks to Dr. Barnard, unlike several prior doctors, who denied or never offered surgery. The results speak for themselves.
Went to the dr. from another dr. (who had detached my retina from my right eye with a laser). The dr. repaired the retina but resulted in vision distortion where the vision is not clear long distance but with reading glasses it is which is not normal.
Referred to the dr. by another dr. who had detached my retina with a laser. Dr. Barnard repaired the fully detached retina but caused my eyesight in the right eye to become permanently distorted (where I can see long distance clearly with reading glasses which is not normal).
Dr. Barnard has my full confidence. He is professional and knowledgeable.
An Excellent physician, recommend to all.
My wife has a retinal occlusion. She was referred to Dr. Barnard who began a series of injections to preserve her eye sight. The injections sound worse than they really are. She went in with a gel like object floating in her field of sight. The gel floater has disappeared. There is also marked improvement overall.
First referred to Florida Retina Institute over 4 years ago due to WMD. The doctors and staff have been extraordinarily committed to careful, thoughtful diagnosis and treatment. And taken the time, when asked to explain clearly ad to answer questions. Due to insurance problems, I ended up at a different retina specialist for a year that seemed to run their practice more like a billing factory for insurance plans than a healthcare organization for patients. I've been back with Florida Retina Institute for a couple of years now, and continue to be very impressed with their professionalism and patient care.

First visit Dr Barnard never took time to talk to me about past procedures. My 2nd visit today is my last. He didn't want to examine me nor did he read my chart to know I had questions. He got upset and in discuss walked out ssysay "I guess I have to exam you". I will not ever go back as my eyes can't be replaced and as I've been having injections since 2006 I know I was having issues. How can a doctor inject your eye without examination first.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
