List of Jerome Goldstein's Reviews
I was a patient of Dr. Goldstein's for ten years. Recently I started receiving care at Stanford and according to that new team many options that would have drastically improved my life were never offered to me which would have changed my options in being a parent because of lower toxicity as a potential mother. I believe Dr Goldstein offers solutions he's familiar with versus what patients need and without decent follow through. I stopped seeing him because he double booked my appointments and couldn't call refills in without 5 reminders. Most of the time the prescription was written wrong. When I started as his patient I was much happier because he had drug trials to join. Stanford has been incredible since, though!
If I could give zero stars, I would. I've been having a terrible bout of migraines for two weeks, and was referred to Dr. Goldstein by a respected neurologist in Southern California after I was only able to get appointments months away with the renowned headache specialists in the city. The took my information and I was able to get an appointment in two weeks, but let me know it would cost me $375 for a consultation. Seems ridiculous, but I was desperate. I show up to my 3pm appointment on time after sitting through Friday afternoon sf traffic on pride weekend, and the office is dank and smells like cigarettes. The guy at the front desk looks shocked when I walk in, and asks who I am. He replies that he only has my name down, but no information at all on what I'm being seen for, or any of my personal details. He says the doctor went to lunch (even though they have an appointment for me), so it may be awhile. I'm a bit stunned. A few minutes later he gives me some paperwork to fill out and tells me if the doctor isn't back by 3:30 (30 minutes after my appointment was supposed to begin,) that I'd have to reschedule. What!? He then proceeds to call the doctor, and I can hear the doctor on the other end of the phone saying "can she pay the $375? If so, I'll be back in ten minutes." All this place wants to know is can you pay their outrageous fee. I was hesitant to see this doctor because of all the reviews on him, but he came highly recommended, and again, I was desperate. I shredded my paperwork and promptly walked out. Whatever you do, don't try to see this doctor.
I have had chronic migraine for 30 years. I have seen several "headache specialists". Dr. Golstein is not only the most knowledgeable Neurologist I have been involved with... but truly cares about his patients. Wow!! So refreshing to not only find the cutting edge to relief, but to have someone listen. Thank You!!
After being injured physically, I went to Dr. Goldstein for treatment. Dr. Goldstein treats me compassionately, provides counseling, and monitors my entire health. The doctor is both a neurologist and neuropsychiatrist. His treatment has helped my condition. He follows up on prior health events. Dr. Goldstein accepts my insurance. Dr. Goldstein is serious but not terse or rude as implicated by another comment here. In the many years of being his patient, his office has never canceled an appointment on me, nor has he ever been late to an appointment.
Well, I don't want to make any assumptions, but just in case the review written in June 2014 is indirectly referring to me, I have no desire to attack anyone's character. I am just reporting the experience I had with this doctor. I did not know him prior to seeing him and had no "axe to grind". In fact, the only thing I knew about him was that he was a gay physician who was a bit extravagant. Being a gay man myself, that was not a negative. I had every hope that he would be able to help me. I have recently learned that a couple of universities have reported on studies showing as many as 50 percent of HIV positive patients suffer from headaches. Those same studies show that up to 25 percent of them have debilitating, chronic headaches. Maybe my experience would be different today if Dr Goldstien was aware of this data. However, nothing justifies the rude behavior I experienced. It doesn't matter one's profession or how much money one collects for that profession, we are all human beings deserving a minimum of cordial behavior from one another.
Took care of my wife who had no success from two other neurologists. He found success and used very old fashioned medicines that were no longer controlled by big pharma. He also cured another friend's wife as we'll. that friend and I are both physicians and have no professional relationship with Dr Goldstein
He saved my life and diagnosed me way back in 1985, when no one else knew what was wrong with me. I found him to be cordial and professional. I wasn't looking for a new friend, or a date. I wanted medical help and for that he gets 5 stars from me. Bravo, Dr. Goldstein! Anyone who suffers from Migraine, should 'hail' in the direction of San Francisco every morning, as he was instrumental in developing Imitrex and the second generation triptan, Zomig. So, please enough with the character assassination and judge him on his results, which are extraordinary.
This is another one of those reviews where you wish Yelp offered a zero star rating. Brevity is not one of my strong suits, but I'm going to try. I went to see Dr. Goldstein a number of years ago with the understanding that he was the only option I had with my insurance company. From the reviews I've read, evidently he no longer accepts insurance. After the experience I had, my mind races with the possibilities of why he's no longer contracted with insurance companies. I went to see Dr. Goldstein for terrible headaches that I've been suffering for nearly 30 years. When his assistant brought me into the examination room, I was told to undress and put on one of those little bitty hospital gowns. Now remember, I was there to see him for a headache - one must wonder why I needed to undress. I'm 6'5" tall and at the time I weighed about 265 pounds. The gown I was given would have fit someone 5 feet tall, 125 pounds. After sitting in that room for nearly 2 hours, the doctor sort of stormed in. He spoke with me briefly and then pronounced that I needed a psychiatrist not a neurologist, that I really didn't have headaches - rather I was just trying to get drugs. Finally, for good measure, he added that I was obese! He then got up out of his chair without saying anything else and left the room. I was devastated! As I said, I didn't think I had another option without paying out-of-pocket. Fortunately I called the insurance company and they directed me to one of the finest pain management doctors I have ever seen, Dr. Pamela Palmer at Mount Zion pain management clinic. In all these many years of seeing doctors for headaches, herniated discs in my back, and other serious health issues; I never experienced such an unprofessional, mean-spirited interaction with a physician. I'm delighted to hear that he's been helpful to other people, but that certainly was not the experience I had.
Totally unprofessional moron. Stay away.
sadly, the1st time i met Doc Goldstein he yelled at his assistant Kiara. not professional.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
