Pradeep K Narotam's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Narotam caused me an unnecessary hospital admission for over a week. My PCP referred me to him urgently for loss of mobility and after all of the effort to get to my appointment with mobility aids, he wouldn’t even see/examine me and had his receptionist tell me to go to the ER even though I was right in his office with insurance and PCP approval and a set appt so he could’ve talked to me himself. He left me in the hospital without rounding on me for 2-3 days. When he did see me, he explained I may need surgery but he needed additional imaging. I waited in the hospital for the imaging and never saw him again. For two days leading up to surgery both myself, the charge nurse and the hospitalist told him I had questions about the procedure and he still refused to come see me or speak to my family, who are all medical. He expected me to consent to surgery & go into a possible 10 hour procedure without even having the courtesy of coming to explain my updated MRI/X-rays and exactly what the surgery would entail. My PCP, case manager and even the anesthesiologist team advised me not to go through with surgery if he didn’t have the courtesy to answer my questions and wasn’t more transparent about what was going on. I really wanted to get surgery done after being in the hospital a week at this point but I gave him until they wheeled me to the OR and still not a word for him- he snapped at my nurse on the phone and said he’d just see me in the OR. I cancelled surgery and requested a second opinion. Turns out with a more thorough exam and more imaging, my issue was more involved than Dr. Narotam suspected and I needed a different type of procedure more urgently. Dr. Narotam would’ve possibly done unnecessary surgery on me. My PCP, my family, my case manager and myself were all appalled by his negligence and lack of compassion or concern. It’s unethical to try to perform surgery on a patient you know has questions and concerns while refusing to speak to them first. My PCP won’t be referring anymore patients to him and I’m SO glad I made the decision to cancel surgery and get a second opinion because the care I received from my new neurosurgeon far exceeded any care I ever had from Dr. Narotam. In 8 days of hospitalization, Dr. Narotam saw me one time and refused multiple efforts of my family and myself to have him answer questions before surgery or go over the imaging that was done after the one time he saw me. I have made sure my medical chart reflects this and hope he is held accountable for his poor patient care.

Initial interview was old school, 45 minutes of review of symptoms and reflexes, then review of MRIs, then treatment plan. No PAs to intermediate, just Dr Narotam to listen, plan, and explain. OUTSTANDING!

He explained my issues very clearly and i understood them. Most drs dont explain alot. He worked on my lower lumbar and put in screws and rods. Great dr! Np regina is great as well. I recommended this dr! Awesome doc :-)

Wonderful neurosurgeon! Did a great job on my neck! Now have my left arm back!
