Athena Pefkarou's Online Review Report Card

This doctor was sent from heaven. After multiple bad experiences with some renowned pediatric neurology doctors, we finally found a humane, ethic, interested and very knowledgeable professional Doctor, who not only cares about the money but most importantly, she cares about her patients. Although we still do not know what my daughter has, she made us feel welcomed, loved, cared for and understood. She spent the necessary time to get to know my daughter and all the symptoms affecting her. She ordered tests and gave us all the time we needed in order to explain the whole situation and not only the Hematology side of them. Very much recommended.

It has been 7 years since my son died under her care. Why I waited this long? It’s because when you lose a child to cancer it’s very difficult to process. Sadly this doctor wasn’t kind. After my son died she and her colleagues at what was then known as Miami Children’s Hospital failed to even address his death. Back then (and now) I learned that children are only treated as statistics and once they die since they’re no longer of any financial use to these people they simply turn the other cheek. Do yourself and your family a favor and stay away from any Florida based oncologists. Especially this one.

Dr. Pefkarou is simply a wonderful Dr and Human Being. She takes her patients on as if they are her grandchildren. She is approachable and you can contact her at any time of the day and night and she will respond. She is very sensible and humane. We could not have been more blessed to have her treat our child. We will always be grateful to her for her care and support. She is one in a million. Romina Dadlani and family.

She is the best doctor! She should have 10 stars. No one needs a friend in moments like this they need an expert that will treat you like family and give you the best possible treatment!

I don't write this review because my son died from ALL under her care but because of Dr. Pefkarou's level of treatment during his treatment. She made decisions which were without a doubt the very worst. I would never recommend her or her team to treat other children with such horrible diseases. Please stay away from these money driven team of people.

GOOD BLESS DR PEKKAROU. There are no words to describe Dr. Pekkarou not only as a doctor but as a person. Her intense care and loving ability to work with kids has left my family and I speechless. My 3 year old niece was diagnosed with ALL and in less than a month Dr. Pekkarou saved her life and sent her to remission. By doing so she saved us as well. Thanks again doctor, for all that you have done and continue to do for kids in Nicklaus children's hospital.

Dr. Pefkarou has been our child's oncologist for the past three years. There is no one I would trust more than her based on her knowledge, experience, compassion and approach to fighting childhood cancer. She is aggressive yet conservative. She is direct and specific in communication. She is loving and kind. We drive 50 miles each way for her to take care of our son- often multiple times in a week- and she is worth it. Dr. Pefkarou and the entire staff that surrounds her are the best there is.

We were blessed to have Dr. Pefkarou treat our son. She was accurrate, very detailed & thorough. She takes every patient on as if they were her own kid/grandkid. She has always been available, any time of the day or night. We trusted Dr. Pefkarou with our son and she along with her staff are very effective.
