Bascom Palmer Eye Institute's Online Review Report Card

My appointment was at 11:45 AM, I arrived around 11:30 AM... I had to wait 4 h to be seen by the doctor. I lost another appointment I had that day at 2:45 PM in another UM hospital near there. They should value their patients' time more.

4/25/2023 I’ve seen by DR Maggie Yamin. The visit was excellent, she’s very nice respectful ,compassionate, Professionalism. I hope next year to see her again. Thank you for professionalism I hope your supervisor know how great you are. I requested recognize her for best of the best top 10 doctor. She deserved respect,,raised and employees of the year.

(For the Plantation, FL Location): Today I had a follow up post surgery visit with Bascom Palmer. As usual, the doctor was the best. But also as usual, the long wait to be seen was unacceptable. First, an hour and a half in Section "B" before a technician came for me (and then an addt'l wait for the doctor although not as long as is typical). Before the doctor arrived, the technician performed a few perfunctory tasks and then said the doctor wanted my eyes to be dilated. Well it was several years since that was previously done, at that time with my prior ophthalmologist. I should have refused outright. Perhaps my eyes having changed was the reason or perhaps the substance was too strong or too much, but the effects were considerable and longer lasting than I could have imagined. The technician did not warn me that my vision would be impaired for a long while or ask if I was driving myself. And it was a very long while lasting many hours!!! How I managed to drive the 20+ terrifying miles home, in heavy traffic on a sunny Florida day, is beyond me. My prescription sunglasses could not begin to help me enough. I should have tried to call a friend for assistance or called Uber, but I did not want to leave my car overnight, far from home in a deserted parking lot. I waited over half an hour in the parking lot before foolishly starting out without any improvement in my driving vision.

I highly recommend Dr. Terry Rose. She is a true professional & knows her stuff. Before her I was getting the run around & my eyes were only getting worse.By the time I meant with her my eyes were red, blurred & swollen... to say the least! She had the right tools & tests to know what was going on & how to make me well.If you need an eye expert see Dr. Rose. The folks at Goulds Optical were the best too!

Supposedly the best place to get your eyes treated, but the terrible wait times makes this the worst possible experience you can have. Brought my dad with a possible retina detachment at 9:30pm on Sunday currently 1am Monday morning and nothing to show for it. Dr came out and Said she is the only ophthalmologist available and a wait time of over 5 hours with only 8 people waiting causing 3 to leave after waiting numerous hours with their emergency. Can’t believe in this day and age this is still an issue, you would imagine a place like bascom would have the resources to help those in need. If I could leave a negative review trust me I would. At the end of the day this review won’t change the terrible system they have. I understand nothing is perfect but this shouldn’t happen at all.

After hearing such great things about Bascom Palmer, I unfortunately had a horrible experience when I went for a standard cataracts surgery. Despite being young and healthy, the surgeon tore my lens and tried to cover it up by pretending it was nothing and assuring me everything was “perfect”. After the surgery she didn’t tell my husband anything had gone wrong or give him any instructions when he picked me up. The following day I had a sea of floaters and my eye color was and still is permanently changed due to the tear. The lens tear also makes me more susceptible to future eye issues. My advice is research your doctor well and consider other options other than BP. In addition to the issues with the doctor, the admin staff was unorganized and untrained. I had surgery for my second eye done with a different doctor outside of Bascom Palmer in Broward and it went beautifully.

First appointment lasted about four hours. No warning from Dr. Philip Rosenfeld that injection for macular degeneration would create strong pressure in eye, bleeding, temporary blindness, enormous pain in jaw, teeth, and head. Perhaps warning was in order? No response to email on platform and call to office to discuss future treatments. Have found another doctor.

Natalie that works with dr. Thomas Albini is the most amazing person I have had the pleasure of communicating with in healthcare lately. We need more people helping patients like Natalie. Every time you contact her she is always there to help and also offer words of encouragement because dealing with a diagnosis like my husbands has is not easy. She truly cares about each and every one of dr. Albinis patients. She goes above and beyond to try and help, and if she can’t help she finds someone who can. It’s been truly a pleasure having her on our side including dr. Albini. Without the two of them I’m sure my husband would have lost his vision. Thank you so much

Unfortunately, I had to give 1 star in order to post a review, if not I’d have put 0 stars. See below review from the experience my mother had (I went with her) this past week.. My experience was terrible! The providers I saw, starting with the triage nurse lacked bed side manners and humanity. I went into the ER as advised by my retina specialist to check on a surgery he had done to make sure I had no cornea damage since I had a stitch that was irritated. The triage nurse was pretty rough when handling my eye and I had to mention to her several times that I was in pain and needed her to be gentle. During her intake, she asked the same questions of why I went in and what my symptoms were multiple times, as is she was not paying attention when I was answering them. Multiple times I mentioned to the triage nurse, fellow I saw and the MD that I was in a lot of pain (8/10) and was not given any medication for it. I took a note from my retina specialist with specifics on the surgery he had conducted and why he sent me to the ER, but the triage nurse and fellow I saw continuously mentioned not knowing why or understanding why I was at the ER. The MD I saw that reviewed the work/views of the fellow had a better bedside manner and spoke with more care, but not the rest of the providers. The cornea specialist was contacted and once she came in the room, she did not even say hi or looked at me, went straight to look in my eye through a machine, said a comment to the other doctors and left. I found this extremely unprofessional, specially with how sensitive I was feeling from everything else. My discharge paperwork mention I went to the ER due to redness and pain, which was not the case and the note from my retina specialist even states why he sent me to the ER which was to check my cornea for damage or infection. After all the handling of my eye, I almost fainted due to the pain. The MD did help in this time, help my feet up and kept saying I would be ok. Besides that, everything and everyone else was terrible. I would never recommend this ER to anyone after the experience I had.

I UNDERSTAND THAT THE RESIDENTS ARE OVER WORKED AND UNDERPAID, BUT THERES NO REASON TO TAKE OUT ON ME. I'M PRETTY SURE I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO THAT PAY THESE PEOPLE A VISIT AT NIGHT. HORRIBLE. HAVE'NT BEEN BACK SINCE. VICTOR ZAMORANO ,A.R.N.P., M.S.N.
