The first time I saw him, having been recommended by another Bascom doctor, was in Naples; he spent 2 minutes with me and said I had to get an MRI of my head so he could see what specifically was causing my bilateral optic nerve pallor. Six weeks later, he had arranged a Telehealth appointment to review his findings. After a 40 minute delay he came on the screen and told me I was born that way and that my brain was getting younger. I thanked him and noted that he had an acute sense of humor (I am 90 years old), and, with that he ended the session that had lasted, again 2 minutes. Being suspicious of his diagnosis I started investigating causes of my condition on the Internet and learned that cranial accidents can be responsible for optic nerve damage and concluded a fall during a soccer match as a result of being tripped, that resulted in my being paralyzed for some months when I was 10 years old, was no doubt the reason for my situation. But Dr. Mendoza was too busy to ask.

Absolute disregard for patients past record history. In fact he didn't even look at it. 12 years ago I won a massive lawsuit with a hospital system in WA because their negligence caused a neurological disorder in my eyesight, among other irreversible damages. This doctor sent me on a goose chase to be checked for all kinds of test that lasted all day at so called #1 Eye care clinic where he employed at(Bascom Palmer). Long waits, crowded tight spaces, and all this in time of the era pf pandemics. Just later to tell me that it's all in my head and I have no issues. I waited all day to see him and he just tried to get rid of me in a matter seconds, telling it's all in my head. My case can easily be pulled up and put in the face of Bascom Palmer and the U-Health to get rid of this doctor who even during such hasty visit spoke SPANISH with his staff. He also brought up my medical condition that are visible from Sylvester visit and blamed my eye issue on it. Lazy sloppy doctor!

Dr. Mendoza went above and beyond my expectations. Initially I wasn’t happy to see another doctor for my daughters condition. I have lived in south Florida for over 10 years and I have never came across a physician that I felt understood my child’s needs. And that is the reason I kept her eye doctor, from birth, in NYC. Because she needed a surgery her insurance only covers it if she has it in Florida. Dr. Steele, her ophthalmologist since birth, recommended Dr Copa to do the procedure. Unfortunately in order to see Dr. Copa I would have to see one of their doctors first. Very reluctantly and by no choice I agreed. FORTUNATELY!! I was given Dr. Carlos Mendoza. He performed many tests on my daughter. By the 4th hour I was slightly agitated because I was not expecting anything out of this but I figured I needed to go through this process so my child can see Dr. Copa. Once we were walked in to see Dr. Mendoza, myself, as well as my child were exhausted. Dr. Mendoza went into exact details of my child’s condition! He explained what each test meant and what it helped rule out for her condition. He was so patient and kind in explaining everything to us. He gave her options and was kindly honest of what she can expect. I felt such a relief knowing that finally someone understood my child and her needs. DR CARLOS MENDOZA is an asset to Bascom and Palmer beyond any imagination. I cannot express enough how happy both me and my child were after the visit. Truly amazing, thank you Dr. Mendoza!!
