List of MIchael Levinson's Reviews
My family has been patients of Dr Levinson's for almost a decade. We had to 5150 our mother and were fortunate that he did her psych intake at the ER when she was brought in. Our mother had a complicated diagnosis, and Dr Levinson provided support for us as her guardians, was willing to continue treating her even though he was out of network, and did medication management for her to help control the symptoms of all her issues so that she could regain some quality of life. This was HUGE... literally NO doctor in my mother's insurance network would accept her as a patient because her case was so complex. She continued as his patient until she entered hospice a few years ago. She passed last year and our family will always be grateful to Dr Levinson for his kindness, empathy, expertise and professionalism. I am now his patient, and I drive an hour each way from my home to see him. He and his PA, Marcia, are the best. i do not know if he is taking new patients now but if you are lucky enough to get him to accept you into his practice, that will be a huge step towards improving your life in a significant way.
Dr Levinson was my inpatient psychiatrist (well, one of them) at Mills. Unlike most other involuntary patients, I very much wanted to be in a hospital because I desperately needed the help - help that I unfortunately didn't get until another hospitalization elsewhere. Dr Levinson made such reckless decisions in my care that he almost got me killed. Dr Levinson had decided on a diagnosis for me before he ever met me. Our first conversation was brief and just him collecting information on my treatment history. He insisted I that I *needed* specific meds that I had tried and done poorly on in the past. Then he didn't see me for a week, came back and told me I'd be discharged the next day - a decision he had reached, again, without speaking to me. Me as well as three consecutive shifts of nurses voiced concerns over the discharge order. (While I was packing to leave, my nurse was literally pleading with his supervisor to not let me walk out the door.) I was sent home without a discharge plan. Right before a long holiday weekend. While acutely suicidal. I credit interventions by my nurses and two other patients on my last night there with keeping me alive that day. I eventually got the help I needed at another hospital, where the treatment team arrived at a different diagnosis and spent a month helping me stabilize before discharging me to a lower level of care.

I met Dr. Levinson in 2010 when I was 22 years old. I was in full blown mania and psychosis. Dr. Levinson, the first psychiatrist ever, got me on the right meds and I haven't had a manic break since then. He also directed me to start Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and later diagnosed me with borderline personality disorder. Bipolar disorder is a delicate dance and Dr. Levinson works to understand the chemicals in my brain so that the dance continues to be smooth. The best thing he ever told me was, "you can be whatever you want, this won't stop you".
Doctor Levinson is a very cool cat, smooth operator and extremely clean cut! His beard is always well groomed and appearance is above and beyond. He loves money! Who doesn't?
Dr. Levinson has been my doctor for over 10 years. Previously, I met multiple psychiatrists who just pushed meds instead of a thoughtful tune up that Dr. Levinson helped me with. Besides being a psychopharmacology expert, Dr. Levinson is caring, intelligent and a great listener. I am grateful to him for patiently working with me and making a world of difference in my life: I returned back to work, got married, and live a happy life. I highly recommend him to anyone.
Doctor Levinson and his staff have always been courteous and helpful. Family members have been treated and continue to be treated there. His team works together well, and is quick and efficient. I have not had any issues with contact or insurance, and the treatment has made a real difference for the family members who have been to see him and his staff. I have been to speak with him about their treatment, and he explains patiently every aspect and allays any concerns I might have had. He is well-informed, and able to make sure that treatment is modified according to the needs of the patient as those change during its course. I recommend him and his staff most highly.
The service you get from this doctor is excellent. The only issue is that you have to wait a while as he is always behind the schedule, but that is because he takes time to listen to his patients and provide them the right treatment
Extremely bright and competent doctor. Listens intently and speaks with considered precision. However his hired help ("nurse" whose name starts with M and ends with A) is terrible. Apparently she's there to question the patient in order to present a summary to Dr. Levinson when he shows up for the last 10 minutes of the hour's appointment, however, each month she arrives unprepared and I have to rehash yet again my previous history. She has problems; all this is done in a darkened room and she comes on with a condescending attitude often falling on the side of rude. When I describe side effects of the drug I've been trialed, she will insist I am wrong, and then proceeds to tell me how I really feel! When the time comes to relate the summary to the doctor, she never fails to get it mostly wrong. Lady, it's time to retire, as your use-by date has long past! I couldn't take it after a few months; I had to leave to preserve my sanity. Miss the doctor, but not his aggravating side kick.
Been a great help to me. Always responsive and really cares about the patient. Recommend him to anyone having issues with their medication or want to explore scientific alternatives.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
