Ridiculous wait time why cant they get their act together this place is know for this
Dr. Ellen Koo is my physician who helped me during the beginning of Covid 19. You were concerned w/ Covid 19 I was concerned w/ Blindness in my right eye which is another story. My entire cornea was eaten away and had to be replaced I also had cataracts. One doctor admitted his procedure of replacing my cornea would cause more blood lost he knew of a updated procedure however didnot learn the procedure and recommended Dr. Ellen Koo 😉. I must say. 😉Dr.Ellen Koo answered her calling as a physician...I was woke during the procedure and felt like I was at a health Spa. Also every visit I go to which are my follow up are pleasant to say the least ..I still have to have stitches removed her hands are touched by skilled knowledge and experience....Thankyou Dr. Koo and her Staff are pleasant ❤♥💖each visit ❤.
They are considered amongst the very best eye hospitals in the world. Your mileage may vary and i hope you have tremendous success there. In my own experience i find them more concerned about stats than science. Fixing or attempting to fix something but risking the chance of not succeeding is WORSE to them than not trying at all. Be careful of their surgeons. When every tool you have is a hammer all problems look like a nail, right? I’ve also had ADA concerns with the hospital. Baffling, considering you would assume they have tremendous experience with the disabled. Long story short, if you are even sniffing around Bascom, I’m sure it’s a horrible situation you find yourself and I’m sure you’re scared. I would never tell someone in that predicament not to try everything. But in my experience the nicest thing i can say about them is at least they’re clean.
This doctor office bills you as a outpatient hospital under the University of Miami Cancer Center not Bascom Palmer Eye Institute as listed on google search. If you have regular health insurance that means you could go in for an eye exam like me and get a large surprise bill a month later for $1,800 of which my insurance left me with $700 and change for just the facility and expect to get an added bill for the tests and doctor which came to another $200 after insurance like you were in a hospital room or emergency room. Added fees associated with a hospital stay not an office visit and processed through my deductable also like a hospital stay. In the past these same tests at other doctors simply left me with my specialty co pay of $45. This is not reasonable or acceptable. Maybe these doctors are great if you need surgery or a hospital but I scheduled a doctor appointment, was asked for my deductable when I arrived, and did not see anything that made me think I was in a hospital. In a real hospital, someone comes over to explain fees to you even if your in the emergency, not this facility. They are listed and look like a doctors office bill like a hospital but dont offer the same consumer protections that a hospital offers. And I'm sorry but whats going on with all the names I call Bascon Palmer i get a bill from University of Miami Health Systems and my insurance says it was billed from The University of Miami Cancer Center. If it wasn't for all the well known names here you would call this a scam. BEWARE!!!!!!!!! seriously not upfront billing !!
Could not repair my detached retina.
Bascom Palmer is the best place for eye exams/purchasing eyewear/ surgery.. Both my husband and I feel we are in good hands with each highly knowledgeable and professional employees..whether a doctor, nurse, front desk, or eyewear store.

Very kind and excellent people.
My husband is the patient but I do the reviews. Ed has Cancer in his eye and he is blessed to have vision and be alive as well plus he has exceptional vision "Thanks to Dr. Harbour and Dr. Koo and Dr. Haddock thank you very much for you excellence in the medical field.
I actually hate doing this, but I can not honestly recommend the ophthalmologist I saw. I know how good the BPEI is because I trained there. The quality of care was excellent, however this particular person pressured me into having surgery every time I saw him. The last time I saw him, he even pressured me into having surgery that was not in his speciality. Surgery that I absolutely didn’t need. I will not name names, but always take care when agreeing to have elective surgery, especially when you feel pressured. Second opinions are too easy to get.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
