William Smiddy's Online Review Report Card

I feel I was misdiagnosed by the doctor and necessary retinal surgery was delayed far too long. By then I had a full blown detachment. His surgery was unsuccessful and my vision was 10 time worse after his surgery. Subsequently I had to have a 2nd retinal reattachment because he did an incomplete repair when he treated me. He never brought to my attention that he didn’t do a full repair. With so many other specialists available I would stay away from this one. Under his care have lost my vision !!!

I underwent a vitrectomy with Dr. William Smiddy on January 27, 2022 to correct residual debris and flashing lights in my right eye from a cataract surgery from 5 months prior. I would not hesitate to do another vitrectomy with Dr. Smiddy if I had the same outcome after booking a cataract surgery on my left eye. He is a physician that does not waste words or time, however, his actions taken to resolve the issues plaguing my vision were nothing short of a miracle worker. Dr. Smiddy is a very skilled surgeon with a caring team/staff and pretty much conducts his post-op appointments in a precise, neatly packaged one man show manner. Thank you so much Dr. Smiddy.

I am a surgeon in Ft Myers for 30 years and was operated on by Dr Smiddy dec of 2019. I ended up blind i the medial portion of my right eye. When I went to my follow up visit he told me that “ this is as though the operation was a success but the patient died” quote I would not let this man operate on my dog. He is the most arrogant physician I have ever met in my life. Stay as far away from this arrogant doctor as you can .

I could not be more disappointed with my visit. The visit itself took several hours between waiting to be seen and being processed through the office from one provider to another. I understand this is normal for ophthalmologists. My visit itself with Dr Smiddy was short and condescending. Basically, he told me my problem is not a big deal and just deal with it. I myself am a physician and having vision difficulties is, in fact, a big deal. When I asked him about medications, injections and surgeries for my condition he again brushed me off and told me these all have risks. When I informed him I am a physician myself and would like to here the risks and benefits he again was curt. His bedside manor and demeanor were abysmal. Despite this I quickly paid my bill. Surprise! 10 months later I was sent another bill requesting more money for this visit. I have also received multiple requests for donations from Bascom Palmer. Rude and greedy.

Tremendous Doctor, explains all details of surgery, great bed side manner.I would say he’s the best of the best!

What a disgrace to his profession & humanity! After reviewing all the horrific reviews & my wife's & daughter's experience with "Dr." Smiddy, I intend to to have him stripped of his license, this arrogant guy needs to go! I intend to report, in detail, his actions towards his patients and make sure it made VERY public to protect any future innocent, uninformed, unsuspecting patients - JW

Although I'm sure Dr. Smiddy did his best during the surgery, the surgery left me with a disfirgured and painful blind eye. Also Dr. Simddy follow up care was shameful at best. Besides sweeping the mistake under the rug he would not answer my questions including when I asked him if I should continue the use of a medication that he prescripted me. I have informed Baskin Palmer of this and their response as been as shameful as Dr. Smiddy. I have lost all faith and trust in Baskin Palmer

Has always been Professional. Is very Knowledgeable. His years of Experience is well displayed in the care he provides as an Opthalmologist. He is a Professor of Opthalmology At UM, learning and Teaching the most Updated Information about the RETINA, and the EYES. This makes me feel that i am receiving the best care for my Eyes.

When I selected Dr. Smiddy, I was not looking for a physician with the best bedside manner but the best and most skilled physician for my type of required surgery...... and I found that in Dr. Smiddy. An excellent physician!
