Never got treatment decided I could not deal with the confusion. Went to another doctor

My experience was amazing everything I hoped it would be. Could not have been more professional, or polite, or respectful. If all the staff were hundred percent, professional, and dedicated to what they do, they were just simply amazing!

To start with, I had to pay for my visit prior to seeing the doctor, which seems somewhat backward. There were an incredible number of people in the waiting area, and the whole appointment made me feel like a number. I was seen in a timely manner. Dr. Korunda did a very cursory exam, didn't explore any avenues i.e. sleep, stress, surrounding potential tendon inflammation, body mechanics, the prior 2 surgeries to my left hip, etc... He failed to explain my MRI and xray results (of which I had one of my lumbar spine, left hip, and pelvis). After any attempt to really figure out what the problem was and based on very vague and not substantiated data, he suggested facet injections. Should this fail to provide relief, then he suggested radio frequency nerve ablation. With a model of the spine, he spent about 30 seconds explaining the back anatomy. He failed to explain the procedure properly, it's advantages, potential side effects, the duration of the relief, the costs, whether he administered the shots (or who did), whether I would be sedated, etc... He also failed to address whether hiding the symptoms with these shots or the ablation would lead me to further damage my spine since they would hide the pain. I felt like he rushed me and provided no service whatsoever. I did ask about neural pathways developed due to chronic pain and he said that no it wasn't that as I had physical signs on my MRI. At the beginning of the appt., he said the opposite, that my spine looked great. Dr. Korunda is no better and no worse than the other doctors in Naples, but he works on people's spines! I'd hope he would understand that most patients don't want someone messing with their spine until a thorough exam has been done, there is some confirmation about the source of their pain - not just a guess in the absence of data, a complete explanation about the procedure suggested and its risks, and any and all alternatives. As patients I feel that we get bullied. These injections have not been proven to be very effective in the short/long term and they necessitate repetition. They are painful and expensive. They are, however, profitable and it seems that's much more important than using other strategies which involve a bit more time, but may address the source of the problem.

There is no doubt that Dr Korunda's practice has grown so much from his conception into the pain mgmt practice, patients are treated like real people, not just another number, the entire staff is this way, so training has to be one of his strong points and top concerns, from when you check in, to when you check out. Now most recently I have been working with carley, now I have had over 6 sugeries so I'm not your average patient, but with this said they truly have empathy for all of us, as each one of us has are own unique problems and the differences when it comes down to making you as comfortable as they possibly can, my route has been tough as I have 2 children in there forties, both diagnosed with cancer, so you can only imagine as there father that they are going through much more pain then myself, and it's tear breaking to have to go to different states each month and work with my Doctor's as well for my self, all I Know is that they have worked with me on my scheduling, while at the same time, given me the relief in my personal areas of pain just to be able to be with my children, this day and age with the shortage in the medical practice on it's own is hard enough to even keep staffing let alone work with patients like myself that's doing all I can to be there for my children, if it not been for his practice and the empathy alone from all the staff members, working diligently to keep up with my appointments and at the same time trying everything within there powers to keep myself up and running during this time of overwhelming procedures, I just want you to know how much your respected in our community and my entire family of 7 children and 15 Grandchildren all thank you and pray for you individual needs as well, From all of us to all of you these words are truly not enough thanks for our families situation, Prayers your way as well. Outstanding doctor and practice! I live in Indiana and have not found anyone in Indiana or the Chicagoland area that compares to the expertise of Dr. Korunda. The entire medical team and center can not be matched!
