List of Uhealth Bascom Palmer Eye Institute At Palm Beach Gardens's Reviews
Great staff, nice facilities and even good medical care cannot make up for their billing department. I went in to learn about my medical options for an eye issue and one of my tests was coded in a way that my insurance would not pay it. No problem, all they had to do was recode it and resubmit it to my insurance and it would be paid. The billing office won't get involved in recoding or contacting the doctor's office. I finally got the doctor's office direct phone number, which is harder than you would think, and they quickly submitted the recoding to billing. That was over 2 months ago. I have spoken to the billing office no less than 8 times and each time was promised that it will be looked into and handled, but it never has been. They continue to deny having even received the recoding, but the doctor's office confirms that it was sent. Billing will not contact the doctor's office, even though they're all part of UHealth. There is an ombudsman I just learned about from whom I am trying to get help now, but I am not allowed to have her direct contact information, so hope that an email sent on my behalf and my voicemail message are enough to make contact and get this finally resolved. However, getting their newest email saying I was going to be sent to collections is why I'm writing this review now. Unless you have unlimited funds to pay bills rather than have them properly coded for your insurance, consider going elsewhere.
incredible facility & Staff
My spouse is at risk of losing an eye and had spent all of last night at the Bascom Palmer Miami before being prescribed an intensive treatment plan. He has been instructed to follow up in this institute, in Palm Beach Gardens, no later than this coming Thursday or Friday to ensure that his condition betters rather than worsen. Upon calling as per instructions in his discharge paperwork, a secretary named Odi (sp?) monotonously dismissed our concerns and refused an appointment earlier than his "first available" of August 17 — four months removed. When we iterated and reiterated the urgency of the matter and conveyed the referral, he just nonchalantly repeated the same careless, inhumane "Earliest I can give you is August 17." We addressed the seriousness of the matter and the volatility of the condition bleeding into the eye, and yet again, he uttered a soulles, "Best I can do is August 17." By the haphazard dismissal of a heartless employee my husband has been turned away from an appointment he was instructed by multiple specialists last night is critical. There is negligent, and then there is ruthless inhumanity. Any complications that may arise would be legally filed against your third-world clinic.
Great Great Eye care! I went in with almost No sight in one eye and came out of surgery a day later seeing the light with tears of happiness. Luis J. Haddock was my doctor.
I was a little nervous about my appointment at Bascom Palmer after reading the reviews here. To be honest, my expectations weren't high going in. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by the care I received by everyone I came in contact with during yesterdays visit. I had several tests performed and each technician was incredible. Dr Luis Haddock took his time, asked several questions, and performed a thorough examination. During the exam, the Dr explained what he was doing, why he was doing it, and carefully and thoroughly explaining his findings. Dr Haddock was nothing short of amazing. As I was checking out and scheduling my follow up appointment, Jainiris also took the time to explain each and every charge. Even though Jainiris was wearing a COVID mask, by the inflection in her voice, I could tell she was smiling under that mask and actually cared for me as a person. I just wish I remembered everyone's name I came in contact with yesterday so I could recognize them in this review. It is easy to see why Bascom Palmer is ranked #1 nationally in Ophthalmology by U.S. News and World Report.
The minute you walk in you hear "put on a mask". Seriously!? The place is so spacious and they need to stop with that nonsense. Just getting seen is a chore - go here, wait there, come this way, go there, wait here. Jesus! It takes way too long and the entire process is so annoying. I finally get to O'Brien and I wait again for him to come in. A "fellow doctor " sees me first and does his assessment. Then O'Brien comes in. I did like him and the outcome is what i expected. Then he refers me to an associate Dr. Smiddy so issues can be addresseď prior to any surgery. Okay I get that. Then back downstairs to go there, wait here, then go there. My God this place! Now i probably won't get back for the surgery until March at this rate. Its just truly ridiculous this place and how they funnel people through. I really hated the whole experience. Result? Im going to my own retina specialist and a different doctor in Boca - if they don't make me wear a mask! Most ridiculous place ever. I recommend you seek an alternative place!
My doctor is great, I absolutely adore her. But these wait times are ridiculous! Waiting hours and I'm not even getting tests done. Wish they'd stop overbooking patients!!
I have been a patient at Palm Beach Gardens for nearly 20 years. I appreciate that UM/BP is a research institute as well as a care provider. I mainly see Dr Maharaj but also see Dr. Haddock from time to time. I have only the highest compliments for everybody on staff -doctors, anesthesiologists, nurses, tech staff, and schedulers. I like the website and the ability to contact the doctors online. I drive a long way to Bascom Palmer but I have met many from other countries who come much further because their reputation is world wide.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. PHONE LINES ARE ALWAYS BUSY. NONE ONE BOTHER TO RETURN ANY VOICEMAIL. TO CONFIRM AN APPOINTMENT. BASCON PALMER NEEDS TO MAKE CHANGES OR REPLACE THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSONAL.
I am a nurse practitioner. My husband was seen for two different eye problems 10 years apart. The problems were rare and serious. Each visit was an ALL DAY affair. It involved seeing an intern, then a resident, then a fellow, then finally- 4 hours later, the opthalmologist. Each event would have resulted in BLINDNESS, without question, but they saved his sight. What price, in money or time, would you pay?

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
